  Makes 1 cocktail Tip: The secret to making perfect martinis is starting with very cold ingredients, and shaking the concoction until the cocktail shaker becomes frosted and so cold that you can no longer hold it. This shaking period chills all the ingredients and allows the ice to blend just enough to balance the flavors.
1/4 ounce dry vermouth
5 ice cubes
2 to 2 1/2 ounces gin
Perfect Dry Martini Recipe at
Mist inside of chilled 8-ounce martini glass with vermouth. Shake ice cubes and gin in cocktail shaker until shaker is frosted and very cold. Strain into prepared glass. Garnish with olive and serve immediately.

IMPORTANT TIP: The secret to a perfect martini is to serve it VERY COLD.

Wrong preparation method. Too weak. Too insipid.
NO. While "cold" is correct, the method of "shaken not stirred" delivers an insipid beverage. Hardware: a two-part "Boston" cocktail shaker, a long muddling spoon, "barman's strainer," jigger measure, and ice cubes. NOT crushed/shaved. Cubes, chunks, hunks. Fill stemmed serving glass with ice to chill. FILL shaker with ice, add 1/2 oz Vermouth, stir briskly, then DISCARD the Vermouth. Add 1 1/2 oz. Gin, STIR for 30-45 seconds. Dump ice from serving glass, strain martini into cold glass, garnish.
