Easy fix ahead Barbecued Baked Beans (without the baking)
RECIPE INGREDIENTS
1 Large can of baked beans any brand but the firmer the bean is the better it is for this recipe.
1 Medium sized white onion sliced length wise(like onion blossoms pieces).
6 pcs thick sliced hickory or apple smoked bacon or bacon ends.
1/2 cup honey barbecue sauce
DIRECTIONS
In a large frying pan fry the bacon until until the fatty parts are slightly crispy. Remove them and put the onion in the pan while cuttting bacon into 1" pieces. By waiting until the bacon is cooked to cut it you can eliminate the slightly burnt edges. Return the bacon to the pan when the onions are clear or transparent but not browned. Add beans and the honey barbecue sauce. Heat through and then reduce the heat and let it simmer for 5 min. This is best left to rest on warm, but not simmering, for 1 hr which makes it ideal for a make ahead side dish for a picnic.
