Barbecued Turkey Drumsticks

4 servings

  • 2 large cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 cup chili sauce or ketchup
  • 1/4 cup vegetable oil, plus more for the grill
  • 1/3 cup cider vinegar
  • 1/4 cup onion, chopped
  • 1 1/2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon freshly ground pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 4 turkey drumsticks, about 4 pounds

In a small saucepan, combine all the ingredients except the turkey. Simmer, uncovered, over low heat for 15 to 20 minutes.

Arrange the turkey drumsticks in a foil-lined roasting pan. Pour the barbecue sauce over the turkey; cover and marinate for 2 hours in the refrigerator. Turn the drumsticks occasionally in sauce. Remove from refrigerator.

Preheat a grill.

Spray the grill with vegetable oil. Grill the drumsticks until browned, about 7 minutes on each side; turn and baste frequently. Continue to grill over low heat about 1 hour or until the internal temperature registers 180 degrees F.

Tip: Instead of grilling, you can bake the loosely covered drumsticks in a 325 degree F oven for 1 1/2 hours. Baste frequently. Uncover; continue roasting for 30 minutes or until the turkey is lightly browned and the internal temperature registers 180 degrees F.
