BETTYS DANISH PASTRY APPLE BARS

To put pastry shell in pan I roll up on my rolling pin and unroll it onto my pan. I do the same for the top crust.
RECIPE INGREDIENTS
2 1/2 cups all purpose flour
1 cup shortening
1 egg yolk
milk
1 cup cornflakes
8 to 10 tart apples, peeled, cored, and sliced (8 cups)
3/4 to 1 cup sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 egg white
1 cup sifted powdered sugar
3 to 4 teaspoons milk
DIRECTIONS
Stir together flour and 1 teaspoon salt,


Cut in shortening,


In measuring cup beat egg yolk;


Add enough milk to make 2/3 cup.


Mix well;


Stir into flour mixture.


On floured surface roll half of he dough to 17x12-inch rectangle;


Fit into bottom and up sides of 15x10 1/2x1-inch baking pan.


Sprinkle with cornflakes;


Top with apples.


Roll remaining dough to 15 1/2x10 1/2-inch rectangle;


Place over apples.


Seal edges;


Cut slits in top,


Beat egg whites till frothy;


Brush on top.


Bake at 375 degrees for 50 minutes.


While warm, drizzle with mixture of powdered sugar and 3 to 4 teaspoons milk.


Cool; cut into bars.
