Coconut Cherry Bars

Wonderful light crust with tasty topping cookie bars for any occasion. Great for Valentines day or Christmas because they are red.
RECIPE INGREDIENTS
Crust:
1 cup flour
½ cup oleo
3 T powdered sugar
Filling:
1 cup sugar
2 eggs
½ cup flour
½ t. baking powder
¼ t. salt
1 t. vanilla
¾ cup chopped dates
2 cups coconut
½ cup chopped cherries
DIRECTIONS
Crust: mix together until very soft and forms a ball


Spread in 11 /12 x 7 ½ cake pan


Bake for 20 min at 325 degrees


Mix filling together.


When pastry is done remove from oven and cover with filling. Pastry need not cool. Bake 20 minutes at 350. Cool and cut into squares or bars. Serve sprinkled with powdered sugar or with whipped cream
