Crescia (Italian Cheese Bread)

8 eggs
6-7 cups flour
1/2 cup milk
12 ounces of grated Romano or Parmesan cheese (or a combination of both)
Pepper to taste (approx. 2 tablespoons)  (This bread is supposed to be peppery)
1/2 pound of butter, very soft or melted
3 yeast cakes or 3 packages of dry yeast
Place flour, cheese, and pepper in a large bowl. In a separate bowl mix yeast with 1/2 cup of warm (not hot) milk. Add eggs to flour mixture, then ad butter, pepper, milk and yeast, mix and knead until smooth. Place in a butter greased bowl turning dough to butter. Then cover with a large towel or plastic wrap to keep it warm and let it rise in a warm place until approximately double in size. Place in baking pan(s). You can also butter the baking pans and let the bread rise in the pan before baking.

Bake at 350 for approximately on hour.

You can mix this recipe in a large electric mixer with a dough hook or in a large Cuisinart food processor (22 cup) If you have a smaller (14 cup) Cuisinart you can make 1/2 of the recipe at a time.

You can bake this bread in 2 loaf pans or a tube pan or a large round bread pan.

This bread is delicious served with coffee, a glass of wine or with dinner.

Outrageously Delicious
This bread has been an Easter tradition in our family for generations!It is just fantastic. Just make sure your windows are closed when baking....the aroma is addicting when in the oven and every neighbor will be over if they catch a whiff of this this!
