Holladay Family Buttermilk Biscuits
- 2 cups all-purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 2 teaspoons sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1 stick chilled butter, plus 1/2 stick, melted
- 3/4 cup buttermilk
Preheat the oven to 450 degrees F.
Sift together the flour, baking powder, sugar, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt into a bowl. Cut in the chilled butter until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
Make a well in the center of the flour mixture; add the buttermilk and stir until the dough just clings together. Gently knead the dough about 10-12 times on a floured surface.
Pat the dough into a 1/2-inch-thick rectangle. Cut the dough with a 2 1/2-inch biscuit cutter or glass. Dredge the biscuits in 1/2 stick melted butter.
Bake for 10-12 minutes until golden.
