  1 9" pie
I have created this version of apple pie over the years. All of my family claims this is their very favorite dessert! I have always received compliments whenever I have made it for guests! Everyone says it's the combination of spices and the crust.
6 peeled granny smith apples cut into small wedges
1/2 cup sugar
1/4 + 2 Tbs all purpose flour
1 1/2 tsps cinnamon
1  1/2 tsps nutmeg
1/2 tsp ground cloves
1/2 tsp allspice
1 dash salt
1 9' Pillsbury refrigerated pie crust, brought to room temperature
1 1/2 sticks cold, salted butter
1 3/4 cups sugar
1 cup all purpose flour
Aluminum foil
For the Crumb Topping:
1 1/2 sticks cold butter
1 3/4 cups sugar
1 cup flour
Combine apples, l/2 cup sugar, 1/4 + 2 Tbs flour, cinnamon, nutmeg, ground cloves, allspice and salt into large bowl. Stir gently until apples are well coated.

Transfer room temperature pie crust into 9' pie pan. Flute the edges. Add apple mixture.

Combine butter, 1 3/4 sugar, and 1 cup flour into bowl. Work mixture with hands until mixture resembles large crumbs. Once crumbly, cover the top of the apple mixture high with the crumb topping.

Place aluminum foil loosely over the top of the pie and set into preheated 425 oven. Bake for 40 minutes. Remove foil and continue baking for 10-15 minutes or until crumb topping is light brown. Serve warm or cold!
