- 8 or more slices of hearty bread, cubed
- 2 (8 ounce) packages cream cheese, cubed
- 12 eggs
- 2 cups milk
- 1/3 cup maple syrup
- Cooking spray
- Nutmeg for dusting (optional)
Spray a 9 by13 inch pan with cooking spray. Place half of bread cubes in pan. Top with cream cheese and layer on remaining bread cubes. Mix eggs until combined; add milk and syrup. Blend well. Pour over bread and cheese. Dust lightly with ground nutmeg. Cover and refrigerate overnight.
For 8 by 8 inch pan, halve all ingredients except maple syrup; use the same amount. Bake about 35 minutes.
Next morning: Heat oven to 375 degrees F. Remove cover and bake for 45 minutes or until nicely browned. Top with powdered sugar, syrup, or any of your favorite toppings.
