Mama and Grandma's Goolash

Handed down 4 generations, I've learned this is NOT a true goulash. However, that is what I called it before i knew better, because that is what my Mom called it, because that is what her Mom called it. It is my kids' favorite comfort food to this day.
RECIPE INGREDIENTS
1 lb. ground beef or turkey
1 onion, chopped
2 or 3 cloves garlic, or to taste, chopped
2 cans diced tomatoes
2½ cups diced potatoes (appx.)
½ chopped green pepper
1 small can drained whole corn (or ½ to 1 cup frozen kernals)
1 ½ to 2 cups okra cut in ¼ to ½ inch pieces (fresh or frozen, not breaded.)
Few dashes of hot pepper sauce
salt and pepper to taste
DIRECTIONS
In large skillet or dutch oven brown together meat, onion and garlic till meat has lost all it's pink color.(First heat 1 or 2 teaspoons of oil if using ground turkey.)
Drain off any grease that may have cooked out.
Put back on heat and add tomatoes, potatoes, green pepper, okra, corn and pepper sauce.
Simmer over med. heat until potatoes are tender and dish is thickened a bit, appx. 25 minutes.
May need to add ¼ cup water if mixture cooks down too thick and dry before potatoes and okra are tender.
Season with salt and pepper to taste.
NOTE: Amounts of ingredients are very flexible. More or less according to your personal likes. I do like more potatoes and tomatoes than corn. Too much corn may over-power the other ingredients.
Nice with hot cornbread slathered with butter.
