My grandmother always used to make this for us, and now I make it all the time for family and friends. It makes a great pot-luck dish.
2 Tbl Olive Oil
4 garlic cloves, thinly sliced
2 1/2 lbs. lean ground beef
3 Tbl dried parsley
10-12 Tbl freshly grated Pecorino Romano cheese, divided
1  24 oz. can Crushed Tomatoes
1  8 oz. can Tomato Sauce
1 1lb. box Ziti
2  8 oz. cans sliced mushrooms, drained (optional)
Heat oil in a medium saucepan over medium heat.

Add garlic slivers and cook 1 minute, being careful not to burn the garlic.

When garlic is soft, add the ground beef. Break up meat with a wooden spoon and stir until meat is no longer pink and you have no large chunks.

Add the crushed tomatoes, tomato sauce, mushrooms if using, 4-5 TBL grated Romano cheese, and the dried parsley. Stir well to combine.

Turn heat to low and simmer at least 1 hour. Cooking the sauce longer will give it a more intense flavor.

Thirty minutes before ready to serve, preheat oven to 400 degrees and bring a large pot of water to boiling.

When water is boiling, add a good handful of salt and the ziti. Stir and cook 8 minutes ONLY. The pasta will still be somewhat hard, but will continue cooking in the oven.

Drain the pasta and put into a large baking dish or ovensafe bowl.

Pour in the sauce over the pasta and mix well to combine.

Then, top the casserole with the remaining 4-5 Tbl grated Pecorino and place into the preheated oven for 25-30 minutes or until browned and bubbly. Enjoy!!!!

This was delicious
I Love Italian Food and When I saw this recipe I made it for my Family for My Granddaughters Birthday party. Everyone was delighted and loved it. It was hard to find Zita in this area but I finally did. This Lady made our dinner very wonderful and anyone who loves Italian food should try this.
