Spaghetti in Garlic-Tomato Sauce

Makes 4 servings
- 1 pound dry spaghetti
- 3 tablespoons olive oil
- 6 garlic cloves, smashed
- 1 large tomato, chopped
- 1/4 cup chopped basil leaves
- 2 cups favorite tomato sauce
- Salt and freshly ground black pepper
TO MAKE THE PASTA: Bring 3 quarts of salted water to a boil, add the pasta and cook according to the package directions. Drain and set aside.
TO MAKE THE SAUCE: In a large saute pan over medium-high heat, heat the olive oil. Add the garlic and cook for 5 minutes, until cooked through and translucent, but not burned. Remove from the heat and let the garlic infuse with oil for 5 minutes. Add the tomato, basil, tomato sauce, salt and pepper to taste and heat through. Add the drained pasta to the sauce and toss to combine.
