Thyra's Originial Chili Chip Casserole

Recipe originally in my mother's cookbook, "Purloined Pleasures" 1973 Later she changed it to the "San Diego Super Taco" that has appeared in other cook books. May be copywriten. She invented it.
1 pound ground beef
1 cup chopped onion
1 pkg. chili seasoning mix
1 4 oz. can tomato paste
3/4 can of water
1 6 oz pkg. corn chips
1 1-pound can pinto beans (drained and rinsed)
2 small cans sliced ripe olives
2 cups grated cheddar cheese
Brown meat until crumbly. Add onions and seasoning mix. Add tomato paste and water. Cook for ten (10) minutes. Place half of the corn chips in the bottom of a deep casserole dish. Add 1/2 meat mixture. Add 1/4 beans. Sprinkle 1/2 olives, 1/2 cheese. Repeat the layers. Crunch the remaining corn chips over the top. Bake at 350 for 1/2 hour covered. Bake 15 minutes more uncovered.

Teen-agers love it.
