- 1 cup milk
- 1 cup heavy cream
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract or seeds from 1 vanilla pod
- 2 egg yolks
- 1/4 cup sugar
Combine the milk and cream in a saucepan and bring to a boil. Remove from heat and add the vanilla.
Whisk together the egg yolks and sugar. Gradually whisk in the milk mixture. Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat for about 5-7 minutes, whisking gently, until the mixture thickens. Let cool before freezing in an ice cream machine, according to manufacturer's instructions.
