Wanda's Old-fashioned Bread Pudding

This recipe is a family favorite. Not for those on a diet!
1 quart half and half that has been scalded
1 loaf of cinnamon/raisin bread (cubed)
1/2 cup melted butter
1 cup sugar
4 eggs, beaten
1/4 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1 teaspoon vanilla

Mix all ingredients together except milk. Pour milk over the ingredients and mix. Place in a buttered 9-inch x13-inch pan.

Bake at 350 degrees F for about one hour. Place a pan of water in the oven while it is baking to keep the pudding moist. Do not over-bake. When knife is inserted in the pudding and comes out clean it is done.

Vanilla or Lemon Sauce: In a saucepan, mix 1 cup sugar with 2 tablespoons cornstarch. Stir in gradually 2 cups boiling water. Boil for 1 minute stirring constantly. Then stir in 2 teaspoons vanilla or 2 teaspoons lemon juice and add 4 tablespoons butter. Serve warm over pudding.
