The KatchAll 15-in. Red Kool-Tek Oven Mitt offers a superior level of protection for your hands. This oven mitt is constructed from Nomex, a specialized fabric that's used in the apparel Air Force pilots and firefighters wear. This fabric is noncombustible, meaning it can stand up to even the hottest of flames. Use the oven mitt with confidence to remove foods from the oven or the grill. This mitt is so versatile that its use isn't restricted to preparing foods -- you can even use it while making a fire in your fireplace. The oven mitt features two interior layers that offer protection from liquids. If the mitt gets wet from hot liquids or steam, it will still protect your hands from the heat. This durable fabric resists cuts and tears, making it safe to use around knives and other sharp kitchen equipment. Measuring 15 inches, this oven mitt is a standard size that can easily work for both men and women. Keep one in the kitchen for use with the oven and stove, and have another one by the grill for outdoor use. This machine-washable oven mitt is easy to care for, so you don't have to think twice about using it on a regular basis.

Features:

  • Constructed from Nomex, a fabric with incredible heat-resistant properties
  • Three-layer construction, with two interior layers that keep your hands dry even when you're working with hot liquids or steam
  • Resists cuts and tears, so you can use the oven mitt around sharp objects
  • Standard size suits both men and women
  • Machine washable for easy care
  • Cleaning & Care: Machine washable
  • Material: Heat and burn resistant material
  • Origin: USA

  • Too hot for comfort

I bought a pair of these oven mitts on the strength of the Cooks Illustrated review. They are extraordinarily expensive, but since Cooks Illustrated ratings are skewed toward more affordable kitchen equipment, I thought they must really be worth the price. They are comfortable and long enough, but they are not sufficiently insulated to hold cookware that's been in a hot oven without feeling the heat of the handles through the mitt. It’s not that they are unusable it’s just that whatever other virtues they may have, they provide less heat protection than mitts costing a tiny fraction of what these cost.

  • nice but pricy

As other reviewers have noted, these mitts do transmit heat. They are also slightly slippery, but only slightly. I bought a pair for handling dutch ovens that are in a 500 degree oven. At first I was disappointed, but I have come to appreciate that these mitts do what I bought them for. They protect my hands and forearms, they're not too bulky or heavy. The fact that they're not bulky is an advantage in terms of being able to grip things, but it's also the reason that some heat is being transferred. The bottom line is that after getting used to them, I feel safer handling heavy hot iron. They are a bit overpriced, but what is the alternative? I tried an Ove' Glove recently and it seems okay but it doesn't protect your forearms. It also doesn't protect you from spilled liquids. I thought about welders gloves but bought these instead. Good luck with your decision.

    I recommend this product.

  • The mitt give good protection against the heat, somewhat better then a regular cotten mitt but not overwhelmingly so. I know some of the silicon mitts give more protection from the heat, but these mitts make it more difficult to grab pots. The seem to be more slippery.

The big advantage to the Kool-Tek is the material they use. I won't catch fire if I get too close to the open flame on a gas burner and it still provides heat protection when it is wet. Cotten mitts lose all protection if they get wet.

I would reccommend this product to others.

  • Pricey, but the best available

These mitts are very effective. I do feel the price is high, but they are made with Nomex and Kevlar.

  • Kool Mitts!

I was expecting these mitts to be heavier and was pleasantly surprised. They are a bit pricey but will probably outlive me! I have large hands and find them easy to put on and remove and find that the length is just right for me.

  • Kool-tek great outdoors.

I purchased the Kool-Tek Oven Mitt as a holiday gift. My partner and I cook outdoors frequently on several types of cookers and smokers. We especially like the Kool-Tek mitt when cooking with very hot oils or boiling water. This particular mitt may be a little bit cumbersome for everyday indoor use, but the heat protection is superior. Perhaps, with time and a little breaking in I may change my opinion. Like a good pair of jeans, some things just need a little time to reach thier peak performance. A smaller size may be popular with women and young cooks and perhaps a bit more affordable.

  • Great heat resistance, but expensive

I bought two of these oven mitts, and they have performed well. They are a bit bulky, so care is required when picking up large casseroles and roasting pans. Very happy with the mitts, wish they were a little less expensive.

Very good. Flexible, heat proof and the long mit provides good coverage when reaching into my VERY hot wood burning oven.

  • I've tried many oven mitts and have thrown them all away. If I had spent the money on these in the first place, these would have been much more cost effective. They're extra long so I don't burn myself on the oven racks and you can actually

  • This is a good mitt. But time will tell if Kool-Tek will be a great mitt.(I would like to see it pass on to another generation) It was easy to wipe clean, protected you from heat as stated.I would prefer different colors. The mitt was a little bulky but needed so to protect you. All over well worth it.

  • Well-constructed, nice-looking, excellent fit, perfect for normal kitchen use. Might be a little thin for heavy-duty holding of really hot items for extended times. Wear one on each hand to be really protected (and if you want to look like a cute l'il firefighter....).

  • This is one of those items that I wish I had tried in a store before buying. I bought it after reading a review that it was one of the better oven mitts that chefs used.

The good points: it is more flexible. And it does stop the heat. But I have 2 complaints...well, 3 if you count the color, which is more irritating that I had imagined. But you can certainly find the oven mitt in a drawer easily with the bright red color.

Problem 1: The texture of the cloth is very rough and not pleasant to touch. Maybe if I wash it with some fabric softener it will help.

Problem 2: The length. I thought that longer gloves would be better but hadn't realized how long 15" in. The longer ones take a second more to put on....not a big deal one would think. But it is. I can't explain why except try putting them on when a pan in the oven in sliding.

Also, the length makes them slightly more difficult to use (somewhat less flexible and it seems more difficult to get the hand part to stay properly on my hand as the glove slides down).

And, longer gloves also take up more room in a drawer.

These are all very subjective issues. The mitt DOES do a great job in shielding the heat--which is its job. But I wish I had never bought them. And, since I took them out of the wrapper and used them once, I feel I can't return them.
