The KatchAll 15-in. Red Kool-Tek Oven Mitt offers a superior level of protection for your hands. This oven mitt is constructed from Nomex, a specialized fabric that's used in the apparel Air Force pilots and firefighters wear. This fabric is noncombustible, meaning it can stand up to even the hottest of flames. Use the oven mitt with confidence to remove foods from the oven or the grill. This mitt is so versatile that its use isn't restricted to preparing foods -- you can even use it while making a fire in your fireplace. The oven mitt features two interior layers that offer protection from liquids. If the mitt gets wet from hot liquids or steam, it will still protect your hands from the heat. This durable fabric resists cuts and tears, making it safe to use around knives and other sharp kitchen equipment. Measuring 15 inches, this oven mitt is a standard size that can easily work for both men and women. Keep one in the kitchen for use with the oven and stove, and have another one by the grill for outdoor use. This machine-washable oven mitt is easy to care for, so you don't have to think twice about using it on a regular basis.

Resists cuts and tears, so you can use the oven mitt around sharp objects
I bought a pair of these oven mitts on the strength of the Cooks Illustrated review. They are extraordinarily expensive, but since Cooks Illustrated ratings are skewed toward more affordable kitchen equipment, I thought they must really be worth the price. They are comfortable and long enough, but they are not sufficiently insulated to hold cookware that's been in a hot oven without feeling the heat of the handles through the mitt. It’s not that they are unusable it’s just that whatever other virtues they may have, they provide less heat protection than mitts costing a tiny fraction of what these cost.
As other reviewers have noted, these mitts do transmit heat. They are also slightly slippery, but only slightly. I bought a pair for handling dutch ovens that are in a 500 degree oven. At first I was disappointed, but I have come to appreciate that these mitts do what I bought them for. They protect my hands and forearms, they're not too bulky or heavy. The fact that they're not bulky is an advantage in terms of being able to grip things, but it's also the reason that some heat is being transferred. The bottom line is that after getting used to them, I feel safer handling heavy hot iron. They are a bit overpriced, but what is the alternative? I tried an Ove' Glove recently and it seems okay but it doesn't protect your forearms. It also doesn't protect you from spilled liquids. I thought about welders gloves but bought these instead. Good luck with your decision.
The mitt give good protection against the heat, somewhat better then a regular cotten mitt but not overwhelmingly so. I know some of the silicon mitts give more protection from the heat, but these mitts make it more difficult to grab pots. The seem to be more slippery.
The big advantage to the Kool-Tek is the material they use. I won't catch fire if I get too close to the open flame on a gas burner and it still provides heat protection when it is wet. Cotten mitts lose all protection if they get wet.

I bought a pair of these oven mitts for my son-in-law who has large hands and long arms. I was disappointed that the measurement(15" long")was dubious, since the 15" was on a diagonal. However he seemed pleased with the quality and the magnets that allows him to keep them close to the range. I will reserve judgment until he has used them for a longer period of time and experienced the advertised qualities and cleaning instructions.
I have been cooking for over 40 years. Over the years, I have burned my fingers, hands and forearms multiple times moving hot food out of ovens and off stoves.
I was iniitially hesitant to drop big bucks on one let alone 2 of these babies, but OOOOOOOOO!!! Let's just say KEVLAR is a thing of beauty. Awesome mitts, would make great presents!! They are durable and do the job better than any other mitt I have ever bought! There is a reason firefighters use this material. You will love them! A great value even if pricey :)
15 is a good length, if you're comparing to the 12 inch. I think that it has a Kevlar layer accounts for the high price. They are sold singly. Excellent mitt. Thanks to America's Test Kitchen for recommending it!
