The KatchAll 15-in. Red Kool-Tek Oven Mitt offers a superior level of protection for your hands. This oven mitt is constructed from Nomex, a specialized fabric that's used in the apparel Air Force pilots and firefighters wear. This fabric is noncombustible, meaning it can stand up to even the hottest of flames. Use the oven mitt with confidence to remove foods from the oven or the grill. This mitt is so versatile that its use isn't restricted to preparing foods -- you can even use it while making a fire in your fireplace. The oven mitt features two interior layers that offer protection from liquids. If the mitt gets wet from hot liquids or steam, it will still protect your hands from the heat. This durable fabric resists cuts and tears, making it safe to use around knives and other sharp kitchen equipment. Measuring 15 inches, this oven mitt is a standard size that can easily work for both men and women. Keep one in the kitchen for use with the oven and stove, and have another one by the grill for outdoor use. This machine-washable oven mitt is easy to care for, so you don't have to think twice about using it on a regular basis.

Features:

  • Constructed from Nomex, a fabric with incredible heat-resistant properties
  • Three-layer construction, with two interior layers that keep your hands dry even when you're working with hot liquids or steam
  • Resists cuts and tears, so you can use the oven mitt around sharp objects
  • Standard size suits both men and women
  • Machine washable for easy care
  • Cleaning & Care: Machine washable
  • Material: Heat and burn resistant material
  • Origin: USA

  • Too hot for comfort

I bought a pair of these oven mitts on the strength of the Cooks Illustrated review. They are extraordinarily expensive, but since Cooks Illustrated ratings are skewed toward more affordable kitchen equipment, I thought they must really be worth the price. They are comfortable and long enough, but they are not sufficiently insulated to hold cookware that's been in a hot oven without feeling the heat of the handles through the mitt. It’s not that they are unusable it’s just that whatever other virtues they may have, they provide less heat protection than mitts costing a tiny fraction of what these cost.

  • nice but pricy

As other reviewers have noted, these mitts do transmit heat. They are also slightly slippery, but only slightly. I bought a pair for handling dutch ovens that are in a 500 degree oven. At first I was disappointed, but I have come to appreciate that these mitts do what I bought them for. They protect my hands and forearms, they're not too bulky or heavy. The fact that they're not bulky is an advantage in terms of being able to grip things, but it's also the reason that some heat is being transferred. The bottom line is that after getting used to them, I feel safer handling heavy hot iron. They are a bit overpriced, but what is the alternative? I tried an Ove' Glove recently and it seems okay but it doesn't protect your forearms. It also doesn't protect you from spilled liquids. I thought about welders gloves but bought these instead. Good luck with your decision.

    I recommend this product.

  • The mitt give good protection against the heat, somewhat better then a regular cotten mitt but not overwhelmingly so. I know some of the silicon mitts give more protection from the heat, but these mitts make it more difficult to grab pots. The seem to be more slippery.

The big advantage to the Kool-Tek is the material they use. I won't catch fire if I get too close to the open flame on a gas burner and it still provides heat protection when it is wet. Cotten mitts lose all protection if they get wet.

I would reccommend this product to others.

  • These mitts are much too large.

Great heat resistant material, however much too large. If they were half the size they would be sufficient.

  • It's a Thing of Beauty :)

I have been cooking for over 40 years. Over the years, I have burned my fingers, hands and forearms multiple times moving hot food out of ovens and off stoves.

I was iniitially hesitant to drop big bucks on one let alone 2 of these babies, but OOOOOOOOO!!! Let's just say KEVLAR is a thing of beauty. Awesome mitts, would make great presents!! They are durable and do the job better than any other mitt I have ever bought! There is a reason firefighters use this material. You will love them! A great value even if pricey :)

    I recommend this product.

15 is a good length, if you're comparing to the 12 inch. I think that it has a Kevlar layer accounts for the high price. They are sold singly. Excellent mitt. Thanks to America's Test Kitchen for recommending it!

  • My husband said this was the best oven mitt he has ever used. I got him one and he wants one more. I have never seen him look so pleased with an oven mitt. He's tall and has large hands and this 15 in glove is perfect for that size. Plus it protects his hands really well and therefore I think it's worth the price.

  • Expensive but worth it

I bought two of these and have used them every day since they arrived. Perhaps the best indication of their quality is that a silicone pot holder was stuck to the bottom of a baking sheet, and I did not notice before putting the baking sheet in the oven. Minutes later, I discovered the pot holder had caught fire and was resting directly on the heating element, I threw these mitts on, reached in, grabbed the flaming pot holder right off the red coil and carried it to the sink. I did not fumble, and my fingers did not even get warm thanks to these fantastic mitts.

  • best oven mitt ever

My husband ordered similar mitts but they are huge...and for me dangerous. This mitt offers great protection and is the right size for a woman's hand. I only ordered one. I am going to order a second one. These are great.

  • Warning

First I want to warn anyone that is buying this glove base on the Test Kitchen recomendation that there is only one glove at the price they list for TWO gloves. I like this glove overall, but would not have paid $50 for just one glove. It works just fine, with the only complaint being that with the stiffness it is a little hard to grab low lip pans. You have to kind of push the pan out enough so you can get your grip on the bottom of the pan to lift it out.

    I recommend this product.
