Yes | No Report Violation »The grill cooks fine but I'm concerned that the plastic trim around the edge keeps breaking off in little pieces since the first time we used. We have not dropped or used it roughly but we find little pieces of plastic trim on the counter every time we use it. Judith Stern

I have two concerns with the first being the fact that it takes a little over 12 minutes to heat up to 400 degree's which I find to be very slow. My intent was to upgrade from a George Foreman Grill for two reasons. The first being this Calphalon grille does have removable plates and I wanted a flatter surface so more of the juices do not drain out. While the product does both of these I am concerned with the very small tolerance that exists between the removable plates and the release buttons that hold them. I have had some difficulty getting the plates fully attached as evidenced by the release button not being fully backed out and the plates not being locked in. If the buttons are not fully and firmly out the grille plate is not secured. I hope this issue will resolve itself with further use. On the plus side it does get much hotter than the two George Foreman grilles I have which results in faster cooking and much more clearly defined grille marks. Another reason I bought this is I live in an upper floor of a Downtown Apt and local fire codes prevent the use of any type of grill. Time will tell if this turns out to be an adequate subsitute for Grilling. Rory

Thought it might need "curing" and it eventually went away. Turns out that the plastic gasket(?) they use between the upper and lower body plates was melting away in one corner. No longer stinks, cooks just fine, and my family likes it.

1 of 1 users found this helpful. Was it helpful to you? Yes | No Report Violation »I bought this to replace an indoor grill. So far I've cooked boneless chicken breasts and small steaks on the grill. It doesn't really 'grill' as the meat is only seared in the ridges. It doesn’t have the overall seared look I’ve come to expect from my other grill. I think that it may be that the grill ridges are too deep to sear overall. I cook on this 'grill' and then put in the oven on grill to sear the meat. Next time I use the grill I may sear first and then cook on the grill. The product is heavy in weight but the construction is very good with the exception of the plastic. I am concerned about the plastic release buttons to unlock the plates and the plastic lock. I’m hoping they don’t break. The grill plates are very easy to clean as is the drip pan. It is a little awkward to clean under the handle. It is awkward to put the plates back in securely. Though it has not happened, I keep expecting the top plate to release while cooking. I don’t like that it takes so long to heat up. It takes at least 10-12 minutes to heat to 400 degrees. Once it heats up, it cooks fast. It takes a good while for the plates to cool down to wash. Overall, the product does average. For the price, I am not that impressed. That being said, my husband says he loves it.

Top Griddle gets hotter than the botton one. I should have returned but had a panini party to cook for. I cooked 12 sandwiches and everyone was only toasted about 50% on the bottom vs the top. You lost 6 customers that night.

I am impressed with the timer and how HOT it gets. I have used it three times. I have had two instances where the top griddle, when it has reached its preheated temperature has fallen onto the bottom griddle. The first time this happened, I opened it to place the meat inside and it fell. I questioned wheather I had placed it correctly in the proper position. The second time it happened, I checked both griddles before using it, to make sure that they were secure and they were. I cooked my husbands steak, removed it and decided to leave my steak on a little longer. I removed my steak and the top griddle fell onto the bottom griddle. It is difficult handling a griddle that has reached a temperature of 450 degrees.

The plates pop out easily and wipe off with a paper towel. You could always use soap and water because they are free from the grill. The drain also cleans up easily with a little soap and water. Clean up took less than two minutes. Waiting until the plates were cool was not a problem.

The first grill is still going strong, but I was fearful that I wouldn't be able to buy another in the future. My only complaint about this grill is that the plastic trim does tend to break off over time and the ready light doesn't really work very well. But in terms of grilling wonderful chicken, fish and pork it can't be beat!

Yes | No Report Violation »I have owned several of the top-selling brands of grills in the past, and can say without a doubt that this Calphalon is the best by far! It is the sturdiest, best-looking, and most convienent to use. It stores easily and the grease cup is definitely the most handy and innovative design out there. The fact that I got it on sale at a very substantial discount, and also got free shipping, was a big factor in my purchase decision, as it is a bit pricey without those. But overall, the quality and extremely thorough packing by Calphalon proved to be a great buying experience! The only thing that is a slight problem with the grill is that it takes a long time to preheat.

I felt the griddle grill was too flimsy and was drawn to the sturdiness of the removable plate grill instead. Since the arrival of the grill two weeks ago, my husband has used it seven times! It cooks meat, poultry and fish perfectly. We love it! As the person who "cleans' the grill I've noticed that the housing of the removable grills is not as tight a fit as I would like. However, nothing "drips" into the metal coil area and it is easy to clean. Thanks.
