The end result of this product is good. The problem is the design. I have to use a pliers to remove the disc from the shredder when I'm done. It clamps on so tightly that I can not remove it by hand. I consider that a major hassle. Otherwise, it is a good product.
the product operates as it was advertised. Cleanup is easy. the blades are a little difficult to remove from the plastic housing, with some rubber tip plyers they detach fine. I would recommend these to any and all that purchase these items.
I grew up with the Kitchen Aid Roto Slicer-Shredder and have missed it ever since I left home. We had a large family so shredding things like cheese, potatoes, zucchini etc... was way too much work with a hand grater. The Slicer- Shredder saves your hands from nicks you can get hand shredding and it takes just seconds ! My husband and I enjoy it now for shredding soft and hard cheeses (ie: Parmesean) and I just used it for the first time to shred fresh ginger and it worked beautifully.

Only issue is blade removal
I like the attachment very much. It comes with three slicer/graters that work very well and the overall attachment is very easy to connect to the Kitchen Aid. The ONLY problem I have with it is that, although it is very easy to insert the grater/slicer blades into the attachment, it is EXTREMELY difficult to disengage them! I actually was unable to do it myself and had to enlist my husband to do it (and I am normally not a wimp!) It seems like there should be some kind of small wrench included with it but there isn't one.
This shredder attachment shreds just as good as the expensive one and is smaller and has fewer parts to clean. The expensive one feels like it will tip over any minute. My only gripe is the small slicer blade is paper thin and the large slicer blade is still quite thin. I would like to see a thicker slicer blade. Of course, this one doesn't dice like the expensive one does, but I still prefer it for shredding.
My old mixer had a similar attachment that worked like a dream. One of the reasons I decided to buy a Kitchen Aid mixer was that it had this shredder attachment. I should have read the reviews about it -- I would most likely have chosen a different mixer (Bosch, for example). The shredder does not work well at all. It is not easy to attach and leaves large pieces of the vegetable you are trying to shred on the outside of the shredder. It would take much less time to shred by hand than using this poorly designed attachment. The blades also rust! I am terribly disappointed in this product. Surely Kitchen Aid could have done better. Even the $29 Presto Salad shooter from Walmart works better. Be warned!
I purchased this shredder attachment to make latkes. For the past 10 years I have shredded 15 pounds of potatoes by hand because people were certain the machine shredded wouldn't taste as good. I love my KitchenAid mixer and had been eyeing this product for some time. When I saw it was on sale for a good deal, I decided to give it a try. Super easy to install, super easy to use, and super easy to clean. Best of all no one could tell a difference, except for me because my arm wasn't exhausted from shredding all day.
We purchased this item thinking it might replace our larger food processor that recently broke after 27 years. I made
coleslaw. Well, I chose the larger of the two grater options. I guess I've discovered how KFC does it. It ground it so fine
and the contents just stuck inside the grater instead of falling into the bowl That was remedied by the use of a spatula
to "dig" it out. It really got impacted. Next, trying to "grate" an onion using the same attachment. Wrong part I guess.
I realized how to "juice" the onion. Grating an carrot was even "more" difficult. I couldn't get enough leverage to push down from the top. After trying from standing on a chair, still didn't do it, my husband came to the rescue and was able to apply more force than I. We both came to the conclusion that a food Processor is a necessary appliance and have one on order. I will try the slicer blades on the next cabbage but don't think I'll use any of this for grating bread crumbs. The dry bread would possibly fly all over the place! Think Food Processor!!!!
I read several reviews and saw some people were unhappy with it...not sure what they used but I LOVE THIS Shredder and Slicer. It makes the BEST homemade chips out of Potato's and Sweet Potato's. It grates a block of cheese quickly.
I was very excited to get this group and hope it will replace many functions I do with a Mandolin (fingers get very scared), food processor, etc. I'm hoping this will give me the ability to make more room on my shelves by getting of rid of equipment that duplicates the functions of this equipment.
My husband has been bugging me to get this attachment since I have the mixer. He loves to make hashbrowns, but hates the time to shred. We were very impressed with the quality of this product. It's very sturdy and he loved how easy it was!
I am having so much fun with this toy/tool. Hash browns for lunch takes one minute, red flannel hash for dinner- shred beets- potatoes- onions and, for fun, sweet potatoes. Fry with salt & pepper and your favorite herbs...the ideas are endless and so easy to clean up afterwards.
