Eliminates most odors. Does get pretty yucky if you fill compost bucket too full. Not too sure when it's time to change filter.

... TWO SETS of filters. When used with the RSVP Stainless Compost Pail, you need a round and a square filter in layers within the lid. Here, you get two of each! Depending how stinky your kitchen scraps are or how often you empty the crock, one set of filters could last OVER 6 months! If you are buying the RSVP pail, it should already come with a replacement set which provides smell protection for a year or more. However, we decided to just get the extra filters at the same time to save shipping, save time and save the hassle of looking for them later (we found these at cooking.com after they were discontinued from our bridal registry at another store). They're inexpensive and the right size (other replacements we've seen are too small and thin). They really keep smells under control!

I've owned several compost buckets and I really like this larger size. The filters last a year for me and I replace them in the spring. Happy composting!
