"Torrefazione Palermo Coffee"

by Myra, VA
July 28, 2009

Several years ago my husband & I stumbled across a Torrefazione Coffee Bistro in Portland, Oregon. (Torrefazione originated in Seattle and was the baby of an Italian family). This was the beginning of a marvelous love affair with their "Palermo Whole Bean" coffee. They have several flavors to choose from however, Palermo stole our hearts and the rest is history. You could go into this little Bistro and get your favorite coffee drink created in a REAL cup, complete with saucer. These cups were made in Deruta, the heart of Italy's beautiful pottery. It was a first class experience from the exceptionally talented Barista, to the ceramic cup from Italy, to the rich Italian coffee. It was the closest thing you could get to being at a neighborhood coffee house without being in Italy. You could even have the coffee delivered to your door. THEN, Starbucks bought this Italian (Mom & Pop) business. They closed all of the coffee houses, they took away the mail order house and now they have done away with Palermo Whole Bean coffee. Oh, yes you can still get it in GROUND, however this takes from the ritual, pleasure and the taste of starting from scratch with FRESH GROUND BEANS!!! Thank God for Cooking.com or you wouldn't even be able to purchase "Torrefazione" Coffee. Surely, Starbucks isn't so greedy that they will discontinue my favorite coffee of all time. Please keep making Palermo, and leave it in the WHOLE BEAN state.

Would prefer whole beans and don't understand why Torrefazione won't provide them to you (and me).

The first time I made a pot, the aroma felt like I was in Italy at a cafe. Love this stuff...you gotta try it...it's the best...I know because I come from Palermo and this coffee is "palermo ground". truly great cup of expresso.

I want to buy Palermo in whole beans, not ground. Why is that not possible?

I Want Whole Beans!

I don't understand why you/Torrefazione will not sell Palermo whole beans. They sell other blends in whole beans, but only provide ground Palermo. The product would be so much better if I could grind it cup by cup just before brewing. It seems Torrefazione doesn't care about the quality of their product as they should. Cooking.com should influence them to provide the whole beans. On your website you indicate that Palermo is their best-seller. I don't get Torrefazione's refusal to provide the best.

This coffee is delicious. We've served it to family and friends and they love it. Everyone comments on how smooth it is with no bitterness, even though it's a very dark roast. For those who like dark roasted coffee, it's wonderful.

This is one of the best coffees I've ever tasted and we've been drinking it at home pretty much exclusively for several years. Having discovered it at a hotel in Seattle and after calling the hotel upon m y return to find out about the coffee they were serving, I found it online and ordered it. It is rich but not bitter, and the beans are not overcooked like so much coffee out there. For people who like a dark, full-bodied coffee to get them going in the morning, I can't recommend this coffee highly enough!

Been drinking this since they had their little shoppe on Occidental Ave in Seattle in 1990. Yummy!! My regular rotation is Torrefazione, Ravens Brew, and Illys.

Good for a ground coffee

We always grind our own, but unfortunately, Cooking.com didn't offer these as whole beans. Because of the rave reviews, we decided to try them anyway. Yes, this coffee is very good, though they still can't compare to good freshly ground beans. If they become available in whole beans, we'll give them another try, but in the meantime we're sticking with our old faithful Fogbuster.

Good choice if you can't grind.

wish this roast was available in whole bean

we've been avid fans of torrefozioni for almost 15 years, and have even resorted to buying the ground palermo and monteacatini because we can't find the beans anywhere anymore. It's ok, but I just had a cup of freshground from whole bean cafe umbria-no comparison. If the torrefozioni roasts we love were available whole bean we'd stay with it but they're not so sadly we're moving on.jas

Palermo

by Stan, WV
May 18, 2011

I originally purchased this coffee from Bruno's in Destin, Florida and liked it immediately. I could not find the brand anywhere in the Northeast, however, did find it on-line. It is a very earthy, smokey flavor coffee, just a little bitter but bold and smooth. I actually like the bean version better, it's a little more fresh and also more bold. I would recommend this, it was a couple bucks less in the grocery strore than on-line.

Coffee for the ages.

by Keith, IN
March 22, 2008

Once I started leaving the friendly confines of Maxwell House and trying out other coffees there was no turning back. I went from 100% Colombian to French Roast, to Kona, Sumatra, Kitamu, Gold Coast, and finally to Italian Roast. The Starbuck's variety was passable, but when my local grocer started stocking Palermo, Sardegna, and Napoli I didn't want to drink anything else. Eventually, their need of shelf space led to them dumping my favorites, so now I have to order what I truly enjoy drinking. It's not the first product that I've had to go through these measures to obtain, and it probably won't be the last. I guess some people are just picky.

This is the best of the best for coffee. I have been unable to find it around my area but once in a while find it in a local supermarket. Fast on the shipping even the slow way. I hope all coffee lovers get the chance to try this coffee!
