Possibly the best espresso you can find
Want to make perfect espresso at home? Stop looking for the right beans. Seriously. This is the one! Aside from what is served in Italian coffee bars, I've found nothing that compares to Torrefazione's Perugia blend in the US.
In the States, I've tried numerous other brands from time to time when I couldn't get my hands on this one: Starbucks, Seattle's Best, Kirkland (ugh, don't bother), and Peet's to name a few. None measure up.
Perugia Blend is very smooth and well-balanced. It has wonderful depth of flavor, yet isn't bitter. If you ever had the pleasure of visiting a Torrefazione Italia cafe before Starbucks shut them down, this is what they served in all of their espresso beverages. You won't be disappointed.
It also makes great French press.
That said, it's getting harder and harder to come by. I used to be able to buy the beans directly at their cafés. No problem, as some local grocers carried the beans in bulk and pre-packaged 12 oz bags. Then they stopped offering bulk. Now they've all stopped carrying whole beans; the only Torrefazione blends carried are pre-ground. Cooking.com to the rescue! They may be the last outlet to handle it (even linked by the Torrefazione Italia web site), and at a good price too—especially if you can take advantage of any free shipping.
Not sure if the trend I just described means anything. Grocers l contacted who used to carry whole bean Torrefazione informed me their distributors can't get it anymore. Does that mean it's being discontinued? I hope not! Buy this while you can. Hopefully Cooking.com will always carry it, but the powers that be at Starbucks may have other ideas.
My purchase this April was delivered promptly and the bags are marked best before April 2010. Stock up in confidence if you can store in a cool, dark place.
Simply the best
I have used this coffee for several years. Although Starbucks bought it
a few years ago, it seems to adhere to the original roast - same flavor, aroma, etc. It's always the same and always the best.
If you're looking for a rich, full-bodied coffee this would be for you. We prepare this in our french press and I get a wonderful, consistent, never bitter cup of coffee every time. When I drink it I feel like I'm being transported back to our European travels with all the wonderful coffees we found over there.
I've been drinking this coffee now for over 20 years and I still love it today! We found Torrefazione when it was being brewed by a small independent shop in Seattle. We fell in love and have only briefly dabbled with other coffee when the shop closed and we had difficulty locating a consistent source. I'm so glad Cooking.com has come through for us by carrying this wonderful coffee.
Perugia whole bean coffee
I have used this coffee as whole beans for many years to make espresso in my machine at home. I first met Perugia when Torrefazione had small coffee shops in Seattle many years ago. Every time, I can make espresso that compares with the standard available at any bar in Italy: excellent.1 of 1 users found this helpful. Was it helpful to you? Yes | No Report Violation »
Best Coffee Ever
I hope Cooking.com plans to continue carrying Torrefazione Italia coffee. We can no longer purchase this brand in whole bean locally.
This coffee meets the expectations of even the pickiest of coffee snobs. I highly recommend it. Say goodbye to other brands, once you try this one.

The Bitter & the Sweet of It.
I use this blend for espresso as well as drip.
The aroma is sweet and smooth to sip with no nasty after taste (like some burnt coffees we know of). I have been drinking this brand since 1997. Much to my dismay it is disappearing off the shelves EVERYWHERE but here at cooking.com. I heard that Starbucks bought them out. Most likely to demolish competition as it seems to be the evil trend these days. Starbucks can't even compare to this brand!
Enjoy it for as long as you can because choice is not the American way anymore.
As expected, the Italians know their coffee! Especially good w/ milk or cream.1 of 2 users found this helpful. Was it helpful to you? Yes | No Report Violation »
I wrote before regarding the coffee beans. They are still very small and broken. Torrefazione beans were never like this. They also are looking very dry.1 of 1 users found this helpful. Was it helpful to you? Yes | No Report Violation »

An incredibly good espresso blend, roasted to perfection, this coffee omits many of the problems found in most espresson roasts. It is smooth, has a good, strong flavor, but is never bitter nor acidic. We have tried many other coffees all over the west coast, but have never been able to come close to replacing the quality and flavor of Perugia blend.1 of 1 users found this helpful. Flavorful coffee. Our favorite brand
This is the only coffee we drink. We love a strong, flavorful coffee and had been unsuccessful in finding that perfect cup to drink at home. When we discovered this coffee there was no turning back. Torrefazione Italia Coffee - Perugia Blend
How to win friends and influence people. At one time, my husband and I owned coffee houses in Oregon. We served only Torrefazione Italia coffee. After moving to another state, we were able to buy Torrefazione Italia coffee at the local grocery chain store. Our friends also started buying it, however, the store too quickly quit carrying the brand. Now we have our own, in home, espresso maker, and w/ regularity order Perugia and other Torrefazione Italia beans. We believe we have the best coffee in our city and our neighbors and friends agree. When traveling, we are always welcomed guests for we take bags of Torrefazione Italia beans with us and brew coffee for our friends and family with whom we are staying.1 of 1 users found this helpful.
