This stovetop moka express is used for making rich, authentic espresso. Made of aluminum, its distinctive 8-sided shape diffuses heat perfectly, releasing a wonderful aroma.

Bialetti is the world's most recognized coffee company - in fact, 90 percent of families in Italy own a Bialetti product. Its quality and authenticity have expanded from the original Moka Express to dozens of coffee makers used for producing flavorful Italian coffees.

To Use:
Pour water in the boiler. Insert the funnel-shaped metal filter into the base. Add finely ground coffee to the filter. Screw the upper section tightly on the base. Place the pot on a heat source until the water is brought close to boiling point creating steam in the boiler. A gasket ensures a tightly closed unit and allows for pressure to safely build up in the lower section, where a safety valve provides a necessary release in case this pressure should get too high (with clean filters, that should not happen).

The steam eventually reaches a high enough pressure to gradually force the surrounding boiling water up the funnel through the coffee powder and into the upper chamber where the coffee is collected. When the lower chamber is almost empty, steam bubbles mix with the upstreaming water, producing a characteristic gurgling noise.

As with percolators, the pot should not be left on the stove so long that the coffee boils. Ideally, with a little practice, it should be removed from the heat before it actually starts gurgling--usually, when only about half of the top chamber has been filled.

  • Rich coffee

My husband went to Sicily and this coffee pot was in the room where he stayed. He raved about the coffee when he got home and we just had to buy one. It makes a very rich flavorful brew.

  • Excellent espresso maker. It does a better job than my Krups machine that was 5X the cost. It is really simple. My only complaint is that you have to tighten it down so much and it still leaks a little bit. I think a slightly thicker gasket would be great. Be sure to use it correctly. I tried washing with soap, not knowing any better, and it tasted horrible. After several cleanings and seasoning it with grounds, it is much better. The espresso flavor keeps getting better.

  • Espressos at home!

I wasn't sure how this thing was going work, but after reading only great comments, I decided to give it a try. The Moka Express Stovetop Espresso maker is the best. Taking a traditional way of making espressos and making it current.
I would seriously recommend this to anyone looking to making espressos at home. Its easy to use, cleanup is a breeze, and it makes great espressos/coffee or cappuccinos. My 6 cup maker is great for me, since I only make em' for two, but they have a 9 cup version if you entertain. 5 stars across the board.

    I recommend this product.

  • Good product, but wait/hurry process

Cute and small espresso maker, easy to prepare espresso. But it takes some waiting time - up to 10 minutes depending on how hot you set your stovetop - and after the waiting, then comes the hurrying period when the second it stops dripping you have to quickly get it in your cup before it gets a bitter taste from sitting in the hot machine. I was wondering why it tasted bitter and asked a barista at Starbucks who told me I wasn't getting it out fast enough - I have about 20 seconds! So if you have kids or a telephone or other distractions, get ready for bitter, haha. Also when you wash it, you must towel dry it or it shows every water spot. Good price, just ok product.

  • Espresso maker delightful ...

This is a really neat maker. cost is very low; it makes 4 oz quickly... and the taste is just great. I ordered replacement parts for the parts that wear out... For a simple espresso for two, it's perfect.

I have followed the advice of other users: make sure it is tight, don't clean in dishwasher, and use medium temp. The results: I love it. works great and makes great espresso. Highly recommend it!

  • Espresso Maker

I can use it for making expresso for baked items and things. I like the idea of being able to make espresso shots. If I want just a shot of espresso, I wouldn't use it. Does not give the espresso good cream on the top. Not much body.

  • I had found that the five electric espresso machine I had purchased in the past usually funtion for about a year and then need repair or replacement. Here is the ultimate solution. The Bialetti is quick, convenient and makes a concentrated cup of brew perfect for my daily espresso need. The only that I can see would need replacement in the future is the filter seal between the two units. I love it!

  • Worth the $20?

I bought this machine because I was hoping that it would help me make a nice latte. It does and doesn't. You have to really pay attention to this little guy because if you don't your espresso may get too hot or not hot enough. Also, I have no idea how to make a good white chocolate mocha at home so I stuck paying a ridiculous $5 a day to starbucks. I'd rather pay the five bucks than spend an hour melting chocolate and figuring out that I can make a latte that tastes half as good. It's a decent machine...not enough crema for me though.

  • Authentico

The stovetop espresso pot is truly authentic Italian. Remember to place the correctly ground coffee heaping in a mound before screwing the lid tight tight tight. Brew slowly over medium heat, it takes a little time, but the results prove pure ambrosia. I'm thrilled Starbucks carries this little "machinetta."

  • The espresso made from this is great.

The espresso made with this is great, It isn't the best but I like it. Its very easy to use, easy to clean. NOT DISHWASHER SAFE, you could wash it in the dishwasher, but when it comes out of the dishwasher it lost most of its shine and it looks slightly rusted. Also the color changed because of the dishwasher. Besides its only downside (not dishwasher safe). I love it, so easy to use and great results. 3 / 5.

  • Great Product

I bought this for my husband for Christmas and he LOVES it! I gave him classic Italian roast espresso beans to go with it and we ground them and made fresh espresso on Christmas morning. It's a nifty little gadget and I'm very happy I bought it. I think we'll got lots of use out of this!

  • Great Value!

Good value and excellent results for the price. I can't use an Espresso machine due to the hard well water that I have. The stove-top pot will last much longer for a fraction of the cost. I purchased the six cup size and probably need to reiterate for the American audience that those are six espresso cups - not coffee cup size.

    I recommend this product.
