This stovetop moka express is used for making rich, authentic espresso. Made of aluminum, its distinctive 8-sided shape diffuses heat perfectly, releasing a wonderful aroma.

Bialetti is the world's most recognized coffee company - in fact, 90 percent of families in Italy own a Bialetti product. Its quality and authenticity have expanded from the original Moka Express to dozens of coffee makers used for producing flavorful Italian coffees.

To Use:
Pour water in the boiler. Insert the funnel-shaped metal filter into the base. Add finely ground coffee to the filter. Screw the upper section tightly on the base. Place the pot on a heat source until the water is brought close to boiling point creating steam in the boiler. A gasket ensures a tightly closed unit and allows for pressure to safely build up in the lower section, where a safety valve provides a necessary release in case this pressure should get too high (with clean filters, that should not happen).

The steam eventually reaches a high enough pressure to gradually force the surrounding boiling water up the funnel through the coffee powder and into the upper chamber where the coffee is collected. When the lower chamber is almost empty, steam bubbles mix with the upstreaming water, producing a characteristic gurgling noise.

As with percolators, the pot should not be left on the stove so long that the coffee boils. Ideally, with a little practice, it should be removed from the heat before it actually starts gurgling--usually, when only about half of the top chamber has been filled.

  • Rich coffee

My husband went to Sicily and this coffee pot was in the room where he stayed. He raved about the coffee when he got home and we just had to buy one. It makes a very rich flavorful brew.

    I recommend this product.

  • Excellent espresso maker. It does a better job than my Krups machine that was 5X the cost. It is really simple. My only complaint is that you have to tighten it down so much and it still leaks a little bit. I think a slightly thicker gasket would be great. Be sure to use it correctly. I tried washing with soap, not knowing any better, and it tasted horrible. After several cleanings and seasoning it with grounds, it is much better. The espresso flavor keeps getting better.

    I recommend this product.

  • The only coffee maker I use

After living in Italy for 4 years I became accustomed to using the Bialetti stove-top espresso maker to prepre my morning coffee and since returning to the US I use no other coffee maker.

    I recommend this product.

  • I've had this for a few weeks - its not bad for the price although the bottom half does get stains that don't come off. So far its been well worth the price and much easier and quicker to operate than an expensive espresso machine.

    I recommend this product.

  • This inexpensive, attractive coffee maker brews delicious, strong coffee. Easy to clean and reassemble/disassemble.

On the negative side, it stains easily. Also, the inner parts of the coffee maker came apart after only a few uses. I was disappointed at the maker's fragility.

  • This makes good coffee. There was a small burr on the filter upon arrival. Easy to file off with a fingernail file. I use 1/4 t0 1/2 cup water to one heaping tablespoon of coffee per serving. These are espresso servings. You have to pay attention so you don't burn the gasket, but it's fairly quick and easy and makes good coffee.

    I recommend this product.

  • Handle gets a bit hot - and no matter how tightly I secure it before brewing, it still spurts a bit out of the sides at the mid-section while brewing.

  • I really liked the espresso maker. I did return it and got the nine cup maker. I don't think the quality of the nine cup maker is as good, but kept it because of the size.
