Summer barbecues are great, but running out to the back patio in the middle of the winter to check on your steaks while it’s snowing or raining, not so much. The solution is obvious, but truly hard to execute: a better indoor grill. It can’t be too heavy, or hard to put together and use. It has to have enough grill space to cook a whole meal and get hot enough to get a good sear on the meat. Most importantly, it can’t set off the smoke detector every time you use it. Luckily, someone finally built the indoor grill that meets all of these requirements. The Smart Smokeless Indoor Grill® is the answer that indoor grill masters have been waiting for. With a powerful 1,200-watt heating element, the grill gets up to temperature quickly, and the 120-square-inch nonstick grill surface has plenty of room to grill several steaks, sausages or burgers at one time. The adjustable cooking temperature allows you to sear quickly or grill more slowly depending on the recipe, and the nonstick surface of the grill allows fat to drain away for healthy cooking. The drip pan provides virtually smoke-free cooking, and is dishwasher safe for easy cleanup.
Best Used For:
Grilling burgers, steaks, lamb, chicken and fish.
Why We Love It:
It’s a year-round barbecue without the mess of charcoal, making cold-weather grilling a much more pleasant endeavor.
Powerful 1,200-watt heating element
Adjustable temperature control
Large 120-square- inch cooking surface (approximately 12 inches x 10 inches)
Removable drip pan is dishwasher safe with cool-touch handles and base
For the price, it is great. Don't let the cheesiness of it fool you. This grill works wonderfully and the cleanup is fast and neat. Always remember to put the water in the drip pan as suggested. Makes the cleanup work!
Overall the grill works as advertised, except it is by no means smokeless. The heating element is permanently fixed into the grill itself, so the food surface actually heats. The drip pan is just that a drip pan and, with or without water, has nothing to do with preventing smoke. The heated surface on which the food sits, the grill itself, smokes as natural meat juices, etc, make contact with the hot surface. You'll want to use this grill under a vent hood to prevent smoking up the house.
This smokeless indoor grill is fantastic. You could not ask for a better product. I have cooked burgers, hot dogs, fish and steak on this and you can't tell the difference from it and the same cooked on an outdoor grill. It does an excellent job. In fact this is my second one, one for home and now one for the river house. Don't let the weather spoil another "cookout"!
Heat distribution across the grilling grid is poor. Temperature varied about 150 degrees F., from the heating element to the grid edge after about 10-15 minutes pre-warm. This resulted in burnt meat. Only way to combat this issue was to constantly turn the meat from inside to outside. This technique attempted to uniformly heat the meat without burning. Technique worked to some degree but required constant monitoring. Considered returning grill but no longer had exterior packaging and did not have time to track down a substitute so keeping product but writing this experience up to 'lessons learned'. Don't toss out the packing material until product has performed as expected!!
I just got this grill, and using it once is hardly an opinion maker! At first light,it seems a bit flimsy, not too well made. However after using ti a bit, it all good. The drip tray could be somehow latched into place making the apparatus more stable overall. I like it so far. I'll be able to tell more after this weekend when I grill some Kabobs, and some chicken parts.
I have only used it once. So I will have to see if it keeps smoking. The whole room filled with smoke . . . had to open the windows. I made sure to follow the directions to
the T . . . . I wanted to be sure this thing was smokelss, and was disappointed to find that it did indeed smoke. My next use will be in the garage. The no answers above I would rather say "I don't know, at this point." I truly was sorry to see it smoking.
The thermostat control on the unit is not very reliable. The grill plate does not hold heat efficiently. The grill surface is adequate for small amounts of food, so it works well for single or perhaps two sandwiches.
Overall, I have not been well impressed.
As I read previously, it wasnt 100% smokeless even with filling bottom tray with water as the items cooking released fluids or with basting any of them, uopn making contact with the hot grill, it smoked a bit. Cleaning would be ideal in dish washer but not everyone owns one so be prepared to clean in betwen grills for a while if you dont own one. That was a major PITA. The heat sensor appeared to turn on until it reached the desired temp, then turn off, but kept turning back on to maintain the heat. I wasnt able to determine how much threashold there was from time it reached, until the duration it was off, then back on. Not sure how much the temp fluxuated between these steps. I did feel however that I had to cranck it to a higher number to get the items to grill as I wanted to, not as the book says that it came with. Overall, its a nice product to have on rainy days and when you want to get the desired grill marks. I personally think I would of prefered for the grill to be closed and not open, with deep enough 'fins' to allow grease onto a run-off tray or something like that instead of dripping onto a bottom tray with water that you then have to wash too.
I hate it! I would send it back but my husband threw away the box. Grill would not stay hot. It was impossible to remove the water pan without making a huge mess. Best thing I can say is at least I only spent the sale price & not full price!
