Out of the box problems with griddle

Out of the box the griddle temp gauge did not fit into the side receptable. The gauge connections were bent and misaligned. With force and persuasion I was able to bend the probe so that it mostly fit. Its insertion is still difficult. Also, one of the leg lifters at the rear of the griddle fell off before its first use. As a result, the griddle cannot be raised to consistently drain grease to the center tray. Overall, the griddle appeared to be of poor construction. However, it does heat well and cook evenly, a fact that other reviewers mentioned and the reason for my purchase. I am trying to ignore (work-around) the manufacture flaws.

reliable griddle

this griddle is probably one of the best griddles I have used in the past 50 years. It heats great, cleans great, and is big enough to do the whole meal. I purchased the splash guard for it which saves your counters. If I were to make a criticism, I would say the edge of the splash is sharp and you need to be careful cleaning it.

A.B. Was Right

I saw this on Good Eats. There is nothing second class about this griddle. It is reassuringly hefty, the non-stick surface works well and heating is even. It washes up well and the spatter guard is a big plus.

It's a challenge to find quality products made in the USA with companies looking for the cheap labor of third world nations to save money. I've only used the griddle a few times at this point so the durability remains to be seen but my overall first impressions are that it's a well designed and built product with one notable exception. The backsplash design really could use some reworking as it doesn't fit well on the griddle and is extremely flimsy compared to the rest of the product. How well this lasts over time will determine whether it's actually worth the cost but at this point I'm pleased with the griddle.
