We bought this electric boiler for two reasons: we wanted quick boiling water for our busy mornings in the kitchen, and because it is visually appealing. You may find good boilers cheaper, but none as beautiful. It is fun to see the bubbles form on the metal dome and to see the water at a rolling boil (6 minutes for a full pot). We've been using it daily for about 6 weeks with no problems. The hard-water deposits that form inside come clean with a quick vinegar treatment outlined in the user guide.

It is somewhat strong at first but I just boiled a few pots of water and it was greatly reduced. You are going to want to do this anyway when you first get it because it is so cool. Then, after about 5 days of normal use it was gone completely. We leave water in there pretty much all the time, so that may help too. The smell is probably from whatever they use to seal the Stainless heating element to the glass. It probably just takes a few heating cycles to fully cure it and remove residual solvents.
On to performance... This thing boils a full pot (6 cups) in 4 minutes. If you are looking to brew just a quick cup, it only takes 1 minute. When it finishes boiling, it shuts off automatically. If you come back later and want more, you just switch it back on and it quickly re-boils. There is no cord to get in your way when pouring, and it really looks great. I would buy it again... and again... and again.
The plastic lid and other parts smell horrible, even after many
boilings. Otherwise this product is an ok kettle, but kind of high
in price. If I were choosing again I think I'd get an all stainless.
The glass water kettle is a pleasure to use and look at on the counter. The only negative has been the strong (plastic?) smell noted by numerous users. Fortunately after three weeks it has pretty much gone away.

Yes | No Report Violation »This kettle is very good at shutting off when it has reached boiling, has a safe handle so you never feel the steam on your hand. Its fast to boil, but most of all, its gorgeous. I keep it in the office where many people can see it, and I get lots of compliments.
It's expensive, but I know the reputation of the glass manufacturer (makes laboratory glass in Europe), and am counting on it lasting far longer than the cheap plastic one it is replacing.
