Excellent grinder, a few quirks
I'd give this grinder a 4.5 if I could.
I love the fine grind this creates for my lattes, and the French Press grind as well (haven't tried the other size grinds yet). I really like the look of the grinder, very modern and attractive. It grinds enough fine coffee for one latte very quickly, and without excessive noise.
There was a fluorescent flier in the box that warned about putting the bean hopper on in the right way or risk breaking the hopper. I didn't have a problem with this, but with re-assembling the grinder after cleaning (I cleaned it in the evening, then put it back together in the morning, before coffee). I accidentally placed one of the grinder parts in upside down, then when I went to put the hopper back on the grinder part got stuck! I tried (gently) prying it out with no luck (thanked my lucky stars I still had my old grinder so I could still make my morning coffee) and emailed cooking.com to see if they could help me. They couldn't, but sent me Capresso's phone number. The very nice gentleman who answered talked me through the fix (just had to rotate the black inner piece to release the grinder part) and I was back on track in under a minute!
The only other thing that is a little troublesome is that the vessel that catches the ground coffee has these corners that coffee gets easily stuck in.
This said, I am still VERY happy with the quality of the ground coffee, and the product overall.
We have purchased this grinder along with a Delonghi Bar40 espresso maker and are very pleased with both products thus far. The grinder does a quality job and the grind comes out perfect every time. We have not had a problem with this unit yet and are very pleased with the results so far. I did some research before purchasing the product as well as the Delonghi Bar40. For the price, they are both quality products. I did not read a bad review for either one of these products and would recommend them to others. They are great for first time espresso brewers like myself.10 of 10 users found this helpful. Was it helpful to you? Yes | No Report Violation »
This coffee mill is very efficient. This model is much quieter than my previous Solis. I am enjoying this appliance daily.10 of 10 users found this helpful. Was it helpful to you? Yes | No Report Violation »
This is most quiet one I have had yet. The grind is very precise. The timer for the aproximation of quantity is very close. Mine shuts off between the 1 and 2 scoop marks not at zero so I turn my knob up to three and it works just fine for my needs. After grinding all you have to do is tap on top a little, remove the reservoir and dump into the filter basket. Best of all it is not messy like the the other three I have owned. It is also very easy to keep clean. A better value for this product would be $90.00-$120.00 but I like it all the same.9 of 9 users found this helpful. Was it helpful to you? I WAS SURPRISED THAT THE GRINDER WAS SO QUIET. THE GRINDS ARE VERY UNIFORM AND THE TIMER PRODUCES REPRODUCIBLE AMOUNTS.
VERY EASY TO CLEAN.
Buy it, you won't be sorry!
I looked at many reviews for conical burr coffee grinders, which come in a wide range of prices. This one was a reasonable price, in fact at the low end of the scale, and received good reviews. I'm very happy with the grinder, and think it was an excellent value. The conical burr really does make a difference in the flavor of the coffee. I read some complaints that the grinder is too loud and static electricity causes some of the grounds to get on the counter when the container is removed. People with those issues must be very sensitive, because I find the grinder to be relatively quiet (you are grinding up hard coffee beans, after all) and there is no more mess than any of the other methods for getting coffee into a pot or filter. The grinder also seems well made and substantial. For the price, I think you'll be very happy with this grinder.9 of 11 users found this helpful. Was it helpful to you? Yes | No Report Violation »
a little pricey, but excellent an product
5 times more expensive than my old coffee mill, but i didn't realize the difference this quailty would make in the grind. it's so consistent. all the grounds are the same size--no powder. very pleased.8 of 13 users found this helpful. Was it helpful to you? Yes | No Report Violation »
Performs beyond expectations
I bought this grinder so my coffee grinds would be a uniform small size. I didn't really expect the coffee to taste better--but it does! Even family and friends who didn't know about the new grinder commented on my coffee. The unit functions as advertised, and is easy to use. I'm very glad I bought it.8 of 14 users found this helpful. Convenient, quality, hands free operation
This is the second grinder that we have tried in as many months and the third over the last 2 years and by far is the best. It is worth the extra money to have the convenience of walking away without having to ensure the beans continue to push from the hopper into the grinder. That and the choices of grind that range from extremely fine (turkish quality) to very coarse (more than adequate for French press) are why we are very pleased with this choice.8 of 12 users found this helpful. If you want the real expresso experience and have an expresso machine with a steam pump, you may still find your coffee lacking. You need a great coffee grinder for your beans, one that uses blades. I bought one of these about 2 years ago for my home and found it excellent. It is easy to use, easy to keep clean, and gives excellent results. When my son had an apartment of his own and his own expresso coffee machine, he complained about his coffee not being up to par. So I got him this grinder as a gift for his birthday. And he is ever so pleased with the results.7 of 11 users found this helpful. Was it helpful to you? Yes | No Report Violation »
Great for Pump Espresso and everything else!
I am not a coffee expert, but I had a cheap ($30 burr grinder) that I've used for a month with my espresso machine before buying this one. What a difference!!! Great quality and looks good too. This is $140 grinder and now on sale for $89.99 (for a “black” one)
I really don't think you would be able to get better results with anything in its price range. (Unless you spent over $200)
So it is the best burr grinder under $100 and is worth investing in it. Also, I’ve read reviews and compared it to Solis Maestro/Baratza Maestro Plus which are ($115-$150) and they get same ratings (one person even had experience with both and recommended the Capresso Infinity)
I haven’t tried others in it’s price range, but am very happy with the product and will recommend it to friends and family. For Pump-Espresso--best to use the 2nd set of 4 settings, since 1st 4-settings are for Turkish Espresso-very fine.
Cooking.com’s service was great, and very fast shipping (a lot faster than confirmation eamil said it would be)
Well worth the price!
For the price, this is an excellent procuct. I was going to spend $200.00 for a Kitchen Aid but the things that made it better were not worth the extra money (glass coffee holder & quieter).6 of 10 users found this helpful. Was it helpful to you? Yes | No Report Violation »
So far so good- less than one month of use. It grinds well with enough grind adjustment to keep even the somewhat picky happy and does so with relatively little noise and little mess. Great bang for your buck.6 of 6 users found this helpful. Was it helpful to you? Yes | No Report Violation »
Very impressive grinder. Quieter than any I've had before, and remarkably little static problems even in the dry air of southern Arizona. This machine replaced a Cuisinart CCM-16PC which was in the same price range. The Capresso is significantly quieter, the grind is more even, and compared to the Cuisinart, static problems are non-existent (at least in the medium grinds I use). There may be quite a few more expensive grinders, but I'd be willing to wager they can't do any better than the Capresso when it comes to grinding coffee.6 of 9 users found this helpful. The Conical Burr Grinder is exactly as described and is a good value for a home (non-commercial use) product.
I had researched the whole subject of blade versus burr grinders, etc and it helped prompt me to by the conical burr type. However, despite all that I read about how burr grinding is better than blade "chopping" and that conical burr is the best of the two burr types, I was actuall amazed at the difference that this coffe grinder gave me in the taste of the coffee from my old blade "chopper".
Actullay it is astonishing.
I recommend this product with the following caveat.
It does a nice job grinding coffee. But, there are a couple of design issues. The most irritating being the catch hoppers inability to stay in place during a grind cycle. The hopper vibrates itself out during the process, and you end up with coffee being deposited behind the hopper, inside the grinder. It's a mess. The fix I came up with, was to put some electrical tape on the bottom of the hopper (increases tension between the hopper and the spring tab on the mill). At just short of $100, I shouldn't have to come up with any fixes (thus the poor value rating).
The other design issue has to do with the timer. This grinder is replacing a 10 year old Braun Automatic Coffee Mill. If you were making 10 cups, you dialed up 10 cups. I assumed (wrongly, my fault) that this would be the same with the Capresso Mill. You will have to do some experimenting on your own to come up with your own prefferences (I came up with 8 for 10 cups).
Overall, it's a nice product. It is more quiet than the old Braun (a plus). And, now that I know how long to set the timer, it does a very nice, consistent job.
I hope this helps.
I have never made such good coffee since I got the Capresso burr grinder, it's not too big on the counter, it's nice looking, the only fault and I feel it's a big one, is the cleaning I have to do after each time I use it, the coffee seems to stay in the machine even when I use the little brush. I wish they would make it easier to clean aside from that bad point, it's a wonderful machine.6 of 6 users found this helpful. Was it helpful to you? Yes | No Report Violation »
At first, I was unable to seat the grinding top. I had to call Capresso Customer Service. The service rep pulled up the schematic for the grinder and walked me through the process of being sure it would seat correctly. The rep was very helpful and the problem was corrected immediately. Other than that, I think the product is excellent. It is quieter and cleaner than the Kitchen-Aid I am replacing.6 of 6 users found this helpful. Was it helpful to you? Yes | No Report Violation »
Makes a perfect pot of coffee!
My husband and I make coffee every morning. Our prior grinder did not gride fine enough and was a real mess, as it always was getting clogged with grounds. The Capresso was Cooking.com's best sellar, so we decided to try it. It's been great - quiet, several choices for the grinds (that work!) and it's easy to clean - no clogging!6 of 6 users found this helpful. Was it helpful to you? Yes | No Report Violation »
