This kettle is great to use, and the price was right. When it's full it heats up in about five minutes. It rotates on the base, making it great for right- and left-handed users. The auto shut-off is a great feature, too, so we don't have to worry about forgetting to turn it off.

I spent some time investigating the various products currently available and determined that this one offered the best combination of convenience, aesthetics and value. Now that I have had a chance to use it for a month, I have not been disappointed. The only drawback I have found is difficulty reading the water level gauge as it it placed directly behind the handle which blocks the view. On the positive side, there are several smart options incorpriated into the design such as the addition of a detachable filter, the wide stable base with 360* mounting, a way of concealing some of the power cord, a lid that locks in place and the heating element which makes no direct contact with the water.

I have used a couple of other types of electric kettles, including the Russel Hobbes. The Chef's Choice kettle is as good as the others, although the lid doesn't open as wide as the others I''ve tried which makes it a little less easy to fill. Otherwise, I love the look and feel of it. Definitely recommended.

quick heating, but...

by ann, VA

I bought this electric kettle as a Christmas present for my husband who drinks a lot of tea. I will say that it heats water very quickly as other reviewers stated. I really want to use it and enjoy it.
Although several reviews said there was a strong plastic odor from the plastic lid being heated, I thought several uses and a few baking soda rinses would take care of it. Not so. We have heated water in it now at least 50 times without the plastic odor of the heated lid dissipating at all. However, I'm not giving up. After more searches about how to combat plastic odor I'm about to try putting a baking soda paste on the lid to see if that helps.

I use this alll the time!

The style of kettle is ALL over Europe; from my friend houses to my last hotel room is Brussels. I came home looking for the style of kettle, but this brushed and larger capacity was better than what I was looking for! Water heats fast, auto-shut off working reliably, contents stay hot for an extended time. I'm happy!

Boiling Water Pronto

by Merrill, GA

Clear directions and easy to use. Frees up a burner on the stove that I used to use for the teakettle. Automatically turns off when it senses steam.

I do both iced tea and hot loose tea at my house and this cuts down the time spent waiting for boiling water in half.

In the mornings, the three cup minimum supplies water for oatmeal and with enough left over for two 6 oz cups of hot tea. Three minutes!

not as good as I expected

Two really important elements about an electric kettle since I make tea constantly -- the kettle has to be sturdy and the kettle has to fill up easily. Makes sense, right? But the handle on this kettle is plastic and hollow and apparently breaks easily in odd places (at the base of your hand's grip as in the photo above). I now have a gaping hole and presume that it fell on the floor or something. But the damage makes no sense. Then we have the lid which you press a button at your thumb to unlock. I like that part, but the lid doesn't open high enough to allow the faucet to let water flow without cocking the whole kettle to the side. It doesn't make much sense overall. While the notion of stainless steel is great the plastic elements really made me feel I was ripped off!

My only issue with this machine is it is too bulky, unlike my sunbeam cordless electric kettle and the pot gets really hot if you happen to touch it by mistake.

An Okay Product

by Catherine, NY

In rating recommendation of this product, I would represent it not as a bad product, but with ambivalence. It is larger than what I wanted the gage of stainless steel seems light. I think it is costly for what it is.... The true test of a pot like this is how long it lasts, and I don't know that. If in five years it is still working, then I will consider the $50 well spent.

I purchased this Electric Kettle based on reviews here at Cooking.com. I wasn't disappointed. The kettle is fast at heating up water and replaced a kettle we used to keep on the gas stove. My view on this is that it is better to cook electrically gaining the benefit of fast hot water heating along with reducing the use of gas which is getting more unstable in price. The comments about the stainless part of the kettle getting hot to the touch are on the spot. If there was any one thing I have been disappointed with it is the styling -- I wish it were more stylish. However, from the functional viewpoint, it does exactly what it is supposed to do and the price is very reasonable. The best feature is the auto shut off meaning that there is no worry with turning off the gas on the stove if one is busy doing something else. Ever since getting this, we have been going through tea bags like crazy. :-)

Have had product one month, works as advertised. I am amazed at how fast the water boils. While it is worth the price, I would not call it a "good value".

Kettle is good and it matches other stainless steel appliances in our kitchen. Boils water real quick and looks great. Also customer service works great too.
