In the tradition of the bestselling book SuperFoods Rx, this book reveals the facts behind one of the hottest nutrition buzzwords--superfruits. Everyone knows that fruits are a healthy source of essential nutrients-but there is a list of elite superfruits that have health benefits above and beyond other fruits. This is where our superfruits expert comes in. Paul Gross Ph.D, the Berry Doctor, shares twenty elite fruits that are actually “super,” packed with high density nutrients, antioxidants, and other promising phytochemicals and shows how eating more of these superfruits can help strengthen the immune system, give us more energy, fight heart disease, and improve overall health!
For instance did you know that strawberries are an optimal source of anthocyanins, a phytochemical that produces new brain cells and improves communication between neurons? Or how about raspberries--who would have thought that this little berry was highly packed with polyphenols, a nutrient that fights age-related cognitive decline. Optimize your health by effectively integrating these top twenty fruits into your daily life. The book gives you the best formats and ways to eat these fruits for maximum nutrient content.
The top twenty superfruits include:
- mango
- fig
- orange
- strawberry
- wolfberry (goji)
- red grape
- cranberry
- kiwifruit
- papaya
- blueberry
- cherry, sweet and tart species
- red raspberry
- seaberry (sea buckthorn)
- guava, red or strawberry species
- blackberry
- blackcurrant
- date
- pomegranate
- açaí
- prune
Some of these you can find in any grocery store, while some are more exotic, but either way Superfruits gives practical tips on how to shop for these fruits both in their natural form and packaged products. The book also includes more than 75 recipes with advice on how to include various superfruits for optimal health.
