For home cooks who care about what they feed their families and want to stretch their dollars, this eagerly awaited debut cookbook from Melissa d’Arabian, host of Food Network's Ten Dollar Dinners and winner of The Next Food Network Star, makes good on the $10 promise of dinner for four.

With four young girls ages six and under, and a hit show on Food Network, Melissa d'Arabian focuses on savvy budgeting, efficient shopping, and full-flavored cooking. Ten Dollar Dinners has 140 recipes and more than 100 creative, practical tips on great money-savers (“Clear-Your-Pantry Week”); inventive takes on old standby dinners (try her Moroccan Meatloaf); and how to get ingredients to last longer (keep your green onions in a glass of water and they will re-grow several times over!). And with a coding system to help you create your own $10 menu, Ten Dollar Dinners celebrates spending with purpose, cooking with love, minimizing time spent in front of the stove, and savoring your homemade meal.

Melissa is a pro at creating satisfying meals that adults and kids alike will enjoy, using everyday ingredients, transforming them into delicious dinners: Her Potato Bacon Torte (which, at 50 cents a serving, was one of her winning recipes on The Next Food Network Star) shows how basic and inexpensive grocery store ingredients can be turned into an amazingly satisfying dish. Her Roasted Vegetable Tian is a great way to take advantage of deals in the produce aisle. The 4-Step Chicken offers a plan for getting food on the table in just minutes, using almost anything in the pantry.

Anyone can use this book, especially those who want to save money and feel great about cooking sensibly for elevated, simple meals that are healthy family-pleasers.

On her daytime cooking series, season five winner of The Next Food Network Star and stay-at-home mom, Melissa d'Arabian, shows viewers how to incorporate creative and tasty meals into their budgets by sharing her tried-and-true recipes. With countless tips to save time and money in the kitchen, she keeps her $10 promise in every episode: four people, ten bucks, infinite possibilities. From approachable Parisian and Moroccan menus to sophisticated upgrades for everyday chicken and pork, Ten Dollar Dinners with Melissa d'Arabian demonstrates home cooking at its finest.

  • MOST HELPFUL REVIEWS

  • Not practical for the simple guy!

I enjoy watching Malissa so much on the Food network. So much of what she prepares seems very practical. I must admit, I was somewhat disappointed with her 1st recipe book. I thought it would be filled with the practical and simple recipes that she prepares on her show. Instead, it seems to me that many of the recipes are elaborate and sophisticated, not made for the average amateur cook like myself. That's just my opinion!

    I recommend this product.

  • One Problem

I love all the budget friendly recipes. The finished product photos are great and I enjoy the family photos also. The price was incredible for a cookbook. My only disappointment, which is huge to me, is that the recipes do not contain the nutritional information I need to follow my diet restrictions. With this information on everything you buy I was surprised and disappointed that it was not listed for the recipes.

    I recommend this product.

  • Not kid-friendly.

The reason why I chose this cookbook was because I thought there would be a ton of kid-friendly choices. In the entire cookbook, I only found about 5 recipes that I could make that my children would enjoy. I did think the book was beautiful and the pictures were great but you can't hope to like something just because it makes a pretty picture.

  • Melissa d'Arabian never disappoints! I loved her tips and the delicious recipes. I also liked how she took a basic recipe for quiche and gave 10 different ways to make it. Looking forward to making all the recipes in this cookbook!!!

  • Cookbook is great!

I read the book from cover to cover. Malissa has many tips for saving money but still uses ingredients that I want to use to make popular recipes. I loved all the pictures of her family.

  • I was disappointed, because I was expecting the cookbook to mirror the TV program. I would have liked to have menus, rather than individual recipes. This means I have to figure out what goes together. I was hoping for a book that gives me the menu. If I wanted to use an individual recipe, I could do that; but now I have to find 3-4 recipes to make a meal, rather than having a menu at my fingertips. That's why I rated it low, not because the recipes aren't good.

  • Melissa is a great role model!

This book is the complete package. Making eating at home easy, healthy and fitting it into a budget! The first recipe I tried was her mustard chicken. With her tips on inexpensive sides I bought my first bulk container of couscous (usually I buy the box mix varieties)and served along side of broccoli. This was delicious and I even stretched my dollars further by having some left over for lunch the next day. I am excited to keep trying more.

  • Incredible book!

I haven't made anything from this book yet but I'm happy that it does contain a bunch of Melissa's recipes that I've been meaning to make. In the meantime, I was thrilled with the quality of the book when it arrived very promptly. For one thing, it's much larger than I thought it would be and the letters in the title on the cover are raised. Also, the book contains tons of high-quality photos of Melissa and her family, plus pix of the dishes. Of course, I was also happy with the $10 off and free shipping when I ordered it, and I'm looking forward to using it.

  • A gift

Bought this as a gift for a Mom with 3 children who is under great stress. The companies both she and her husband were working for closed down and neither have been able to find full time, permanent work since. She is on call for temp work, often with very short notice. She was pleased to get the book and as she was looking through it kept commenting how she was anxious to try various dishes. Will let you know more after she's had some time to use it.

  • Love this book!!!

I could not wait for this book!!! I am a huge fan of Melissa's and I love that this book contains a lot of recipes featured on her show while adding a bunch more. If I had one critic, it would be that the dessert section is rather small and simple. The whole book is amazingly organized and full of great information and tricks. Already looking forward to the next one!!

  • There is a simple elegance about many of the recipes in this book, but, because the essence of the book is 'cooking within a budget', the ingredients mostly are things that are readily available, even in the rural area in which I live. The format is a bit different than many tomes in my cookbook collection, but, Melissa sharing her insight, from her many travels and life experiences, to her cherished family, makes this reading experience quite desirable, and I can't wait to try these recipes. There is a great variety, even with there being more of a nod to French recipes, and, in perusing this book, I find an accent on healthful ingredients, which is a great bonus. I love her show, too !

  • I am so pleased with this book. I have been watching "Ten Dollar Dinners" since it first came on. Melissa was my choice to win Food Network Star. I had been wishing she would come out with a cookbook. The pages are colorful, the recipes, of course, excellent and I love the personal touch of including pictures of her husband and children. The price was affordable, which, for me was important. The paperback is easy to handle and large enough to get the full impact. Excellent!!

    I recommend this product.
