For home cooks who care about what they feed their families and want to stretch their dollars, this eagerly awaited debut cookbook from Melissa d’Arabian, host of Food Network's Ten Dollar Dinners and winner of The Next Food Network Star, makes good on the $10 promise of dinner for four.

With four young girls ages six and under, and a hit show on Food Network, Melissa d'Arabian focuses on savvy budgeting, efficient shopping, and full-flavored cooking. Ten Dollar Dinners has 140 recipes and more than 100 creative, practical tips on great money-savers (“Clear-Your-Pantry Week”); inventive takes on old standby dinners (try her Moroccan Meatloaf); and how to get ingredients to last longer (keep your green onions in a glass of water and they will re-grow several times over!). And with a coding system to help you create your own $10 menu, Ten Dollar Dinners celebrates spending with purpose, cooking with love, minimizing time spent in front of the stove, and savoring your homemade meal.

Melissa is a pro at creating satisfying meals that adults and kids alike will enjoy, using everyday ingredients, transforming them into delicious dinners: Her Potato Bacon Torte (which, at 50 cents a serving, was one of her winning recipes on The Next Food Network Star) shows how basic and inexpensive grocery store ingredients can be turned into an amazingly satisfying dish. Her Roasted Vegetable Tian is a great way to take advantage of deals in the produce aisle. The 4-Step Chicken offers a plan for getting food on the table in just minutes, using almost anything in the pantry.

Anyone can use this book, especially those who want to save money and feel great about cooking sensibly for elevated, simple meals that are healthy family-pleasers.

On her daytime cooking series, season five winner of The Next Food Network Star and stay-at-home mom, Melissa d'Arabian, shows viewers how to incorporate creative and tasty meals into their budgets by sharing her tried-and-true recipes. With countless tips to save time and money in the kitchen, she keeps her $10 promise in every episode: four people, ten bucks, infinite possibilities. From approachable Parisian and Moroccan menus to sophisticated upgrades for everyday chicken and pork, Ten Dollar Dinners with Melissa d'Arabian demonstrates home cooking at its finest.

  • Not practical for the simple guy!

I enjoy watching Malissa so much on the Food network. So much of what she prepares seems very practical. I must admit, I was somewhat disappointed with her 1st recipe book. I thought it would be filled with the practical and simple recipes that she prepares on her show. Instead, it seems to me that many of the recipes are elaborate and sophisticated, not made for the average amateur cook like myself. That's just my opinion!

    I recommend this product.

  • One Problem

I love all the budget friendly recipes. The finished product photos are great and I enjoy the family photos also. The price was incredible for a cookbook. My only disappointment, which is huge to me, is that the recipes do not contain the nutritional information I need to follow my diet restrictions. With this information on everything you buy I was surprised and disappointed that it was not listed for the recipes.

    I recommend this product.

  • Refreshing new take on old and new favorites!

The cooking style of the author fits my life style very well. I love love love to cook, I appreciate the slow food movement and I am legally blind. I grow most of my produce for obvious reasons and get organic farm deliveries to use in my cooking. The author uses fresh ingredients (like I would) without long ingredient lists therefor reducing the cost and making it easier for me to read and recall without going back to the book several times. I like how the author teaches new cooking techniques which adds to my skill set. What I don't like is that many of the recipes have such long narratives in the instructions which seems unnecessary at times. This may not be a problem for the new cook or the normally sighted. Overall, the book is a nice addition to my cookbook library. I recommend it.

  • Wonderful innovative doable menu ideas

I really like Melissa's approach to food, money, family, etc. She knows how to make a dish economical, exciting, & new. But, she realizes food is more than just energy for the body. She takes the whole experience into mind when she patiently teaches the reader a new and better way to food. Great meal ideas that I have used, and no stress, delicious dishes. Although there are a few dishes I'll probably never try, many are better than I've seen anywhere else. I love her pantry list, great for shopping for the necessities.

  • Wasn't that impressed with the recipes in the book. I saw only a handful that I'd actually look forward to making. However, her goal of keeping costs down is a winner. She ought to get her buddies to do the same. Most of those .F.N. chefs have no clue as to what ingredients people have access to as well as how much it costs to make some of their recipes. If I had their budgets I could make incredible meals too.

    I recommend this product.

  • Delighted Customer

I love my new cookbook "Ten Dollar Dinners"! It is a beautiful, easy to handle, easy to read cookbook. It is the RIGHT SIZE with beautiful photographs. The author REALLY knows her stuff! I usually try to write down the recipes from Melissa's TV show but often can't read my hurried writing or notes after the fact days later. This cookbook has many of my favorites (most recently salmon patties). I sure hope there is a volume II later on following the next couple of seasons. Thanks for printing her cookbook. • Everyday dishes

These were not everyday dishes that my family will eat. There are maybe 2 or 3 that I will use out of the whole book. I really liked Melissa on Food Network star and thought that the book would be a good one. I was disappointed with the book. It is nice and the pictures are good I just won't be using it very much at all. I will proably give it as a gift to someone else that will get more use out of it than my family. Thank you
