In 1896, Fannie Merritt Farmer, principal of The Boston Cooking-School, created the first cookbook which called for standardized measurements--a level cupful, teaspoonful, and tablespoonful--and easy-to-follow instructions that left nothing to chance. Today, more than a century later, it is a book that modern-day cooks can refer to again and again, in the tradition of their mothers and grandmothers.

Grandmother's cookbook
When my grandmother was married in 1902 this was the first cookbook she ever had and used throughout her life. When she passed away several of us wanted her ORIGINAL boston school cookbook, but only one of us got it. I was thrilled to find that you had it so I ordered one for myself and one for my sister. We are very happy with the cookbook and delighted in reading all the explicit and intricate ways that Fanny made her recipes. I have actually made several things that I remember as a child being served by my grandmother, and although mine is good, it will never be like my grandmothers. Thanks again
