My name is Ree. I’m a desperate housewife. I live in the country. I channel Lucille Ball, Scarlett O’Hara, and Ethel Merman. Welcome to my frontier!
Paula Deen meets Erma Bombeck in this spirited, homespun cookbook, which colorfully traces one woman’s transition from city life to ranch wife through recipes, photos, and pithy commentary based on the author’s popular, award-winning blog.
The Pioneer Woman Cooks takes readers on a voyeuristic journey through the life of a girl who once believed a Grande Latte from Starbucks was the key to all happiness but who ultimately finds her bliss in the arms of a cattle rancher.
Breaking free from a dead-end relationship, Ree Drummond left Los Angeles and made a pit stop at home in Oklahoma on the way to a new life in Chicago. It was there she met “Marlboro Man,” a fourth-generation cattle rancher with steely blue eyes and a muscular work-honed body. Drummond fell hard and fast, and suddenly she was married, living on his ranch in the middle of nowhere, and managing a brood of four young children (also known as “ranch hands”).
In her folksy, wonderfully engaging voice, Drummond shares how she learned to cope with the isolation and peculiarities of ranch life, from chasing beavers out of the pond and saddling horses, to cooking for a man who believes the sun rises and sets in a steak and baked potato. Using only simple and widely available ingredients, Drummond shares many of her satisfying and delicious recipes--both for cowboys and cowgirls--including Cowboy Calzones, Pioneer Woman’s Ribeye Steaks, Cheese Grits, fresh Blackberry Cobbler, Pico de Gallo, and Iny’s Prune Cake.
Bursting with the colors and flavors of country life and peppered with her wonderful homespun stories, The Pioneer Woman Cooks encourages even the most harried urban cook to slow down, relish the joys of family, nature, and great food, and keep it real.

I don't know if I've EVER enjoyed reading a cookbook so much! This cookbook was so much fun to read. Each recipe has beautiful pictures and I absolutely loved reading her stories. It has such a personal feel to it that made me feel welcome. I couldn't wait to start trying her recipes. My family and friends have loved the recipes that I've tried so far and we look forward to more! Well done, Ree!

Aside from receiving the book totally drenched in rain, I might suggest wrapping all cookbooks in plastic, as you don't know what kind of weather it will be delivered in and possibly be sitting in inclimate weather as mine was.

The recipes, ingredients and taste are similar to my way of cooking/baking. Not easy to discover a cookbook where you find most of the recipes appeal to you.I have a feeling I will utilize most of them.

The pictures are great, stories heart warming, and the food so basic and comforting. The ingredients for the recipes are usually already in your pantry. This is the kind of food my family eats. And a regular visitor to my house told me on day. "I love to come to your house, your kitchen always smells so good!" Thats the kind of food in this book...it will make your kitchen smell so good.

It is a beatifully illustrated book and draws your attention immediately. The recipes are "down home" types that my generation grew up with. It's an alround great book and one I'll recommend to all my cooking friends! Donna McGaw Blue Springs, MO

This is one cookbook I read from cover to cover. It's entertaining, informative, the pictures and instructions are fantastic and the author - she's entertaining, funny and most of all, this woman can cook and knows the importance of seasoning and flavor. I know I will eventually make everything presented in this book. I would only make one suggestion: it would be so nice if cookbook publishers would make the books with a coil binding so the book will stay open while you are trying to create the dish. Other than that, this book gets five stars from this suburban woman.
