It may seem humble -- it fits on the countertop, it’s simple to use -- but the Breville Smart Oven® may just put your full-sized traditional oven out of business. This 1800-watt oven is a diminutive dynamo, handling a whole roast as easily as it handles a piece of toast. Featuring Element IQ™, the Smart Oven automatically adjusts its independent heating elements to ensure exact and even cooking. The backlit LCD screen displays nine preset programs, each suggesting the ideal temperature and time for a wide variety of delicious items. Whether you’re baking cookies or roasting a chicken, Element IQ delivers the right power at the right time, and can even be adjusted to remember your personal preferences. This overachieving oven also has a convection option, which can speed up cooking time by as much as 30 percent.
Best Used For:
Baking, roasting, broiling and toasting. Excels at everything from bagels to pizza to roast chicken.
Why We Love It:
Small package, gigantic performance. An all-around champ, though we must mention that it makes absolutely perfect pizza. You may end up thinking of it as your own countertop pizzeria!
The Breville Smart Oven replaced my Cuisinart oven that shorted out. I did a lot of research before spending this much on a 'toaster' oven. I've had the unit 1 month and have found the accolades to be true (Cooks Illustrated). Perfect toast by adjusting the # slices and darkness no matter how thick the slice. Bagels are toasted to perfection with a lightly toasted crust and crunchier cut side. Frozen pizza crust cooked evenly with the toppings using convection. Convection roasted chicken with golden crispy skin and juicy meat. Best of all, I didn't have to heat my house up using a large oven. Can't wait to try cookies and casseroles. Great size when cooking for two. Control knobs are super easy and intuitive. I have several other Breville small appliances and the Smart Oven is proving to be just as high of quality. It costs a bit more than most but I'd rather spend more up front than keep replacing shoddy equipment.
Why use a big oven when the Breville cooks just as well. We bake cakes, potatoes and anything we would in a big oven. It preheats in minutes and saves energy because of its compact and "just right" size.
I replaced a toaster oven with this Smart Oven. The toaster oven had stopped working, but the dials were always hard to read. I love this new Smart Oven! The dials light up when you turn it on, and it toasts and bakes beautifully. I will use it in the summer instead of heating up the whole house with my kitchen oven. It was easy to use right out of the box without reading the whole manual. It preheats very quickly and does not start timing the food until it is fully preheated.
I am very pleased with how quickly the oven preheats and cooks the food. It cooks evenly and makes great toast! I love the way the rack comes out in the toasting function and both sides of the bread toast evenly. I can now get rid of the toaster on my counter. I only wish that the interior was slightly larger so a standard 9x13 pan could fit in it.
I am VERY pleased with my purchase of this particular smart oven. It is one of the best toaster ovens that I have used. It is also a good size to fit on the counter and still has a lot of cooking room inside.
Bought this oven to replace an older toaster oven and i am so glad I did. This is the most used appliance in my kitchen. It is easy to use and automatically controls the heating to turn out perfect toast to baking fresh biscuits. I would recommend this to anyone.
Oven works as advertised, but it is a bit bigger in height and depth than I anticipated. Probably my fault for not checking the dimensions with a ruler before ordering. The height is not a problem but the depth is marginal, and I have deeper than standard counter tops.
My Only criticism of this toaster oven is that it lacks an internal light. Other than that it delivers top notch performance. It toasts bread evenly & accurately according to the settings. The controls are completely intuitive. The most user-friendly oven that I have seen. 5 stars !
Wow! I wasn't sure what to think when I ordered this and set it on the counter top. After using it daily for a week straight, this has taken on all the jobs my gas oven would have done. It toasts great, it warms my dishes, cooks my meals and snacks . I feel like an infomercial but really it's perfect so far. The first couple uses will be trial and error but I think the heating elements need a few runs out of the box before it really performs. I heated up leftover fried shrimp and they came out just as crisp and fresh tasting like at the restaurant, not all dried or soggy like the microwave or big oven. I don't know about anyone else, but I read the manual and cleaning instructions. The manual really gives you a good foundation of how to utilize all the cooking settings. I was leary about spending so much money on a toaster oven but now I wouldn't go back to my Kitchenaid oven as long the Smartoven is around!
I shopped around and saw this oven in several stores before I decided to buy it. After unpacking and washing the rack and parts, I read the very easy instructions. I ran the initial cycle to clean packing on the elements, and made toast! It was that easy to set up. Toast setting are great no matter what "brown" you prefer. Bagels come out great too. I baked a chicken breast, and it was moist and juicy. I love the fact that once the bell goes off at the end of the baking cycle, the oven turns itself off. My last toaster oven stayed on with the cycle complete bell ringing. Not good. You will not be sorry with purchase
Bought this upon Consumer Reports recommendation. It is excellent in all respects, and has LOTS of interior space, more than enough to cook dinner for 2 people. Nice selection of included accessories, and the controls are wonderful.
I evaluate the price as somewhat high for the product. Not truly a good value. We avoid products made in China where we can. Here, we just couldn't avoid China. Counter top oven does not fit in traditional counter top "appliance garage". Unit uses 15 amps (1800 watts). Verify your 120VAC electric circuit (breaker) will handle the current draw if there are other parallel appliances on the circuit.
However, the toaster oven functions very well in all categories. We award A+ in performance. We've done toast, warmed up a store frozen pizza, cooked a homemade pizza, baked store frozen lasagna, baked biscuits, and several other items. A good point is that this toaster oven uses less electricity than our large double oven and it makes toast too. It also generates less heat in our kitchen. That is very important here in Florida.
I hesitated buying this because I really did not want another appliance on my countertop but boy am I ever glad I did. I've had this little dude for a month and I have YET to turn on my full oven. I'm only cooking for two now and I haven't run into anything (roasting, baking, toasting, reheating) yet that required a larger oven. I'm having a ball trying new things and I'm amazed how fast things go in the kitchen now. You will not regret this purchase.
So far we're very happy with the Smart Oven. Once we figured out the timer, we were good to go. (Above 10 minutes, only full minutes show; under 10 minutes, both minutes and seconds are displayed.) Even though the Breville is a bit larger than our old toaster oven, we've been so pleased with it that we have gotten rid of a regular toaster that we had in addition to a toaster oven, freeing up some much-needed counter space. The Breville is somewhat expensive, but I think it's a good investment. Also we only have one conventional wall oven, so I'm very much looking forward to having another oven when preparing larger, more complicated meals.
