This thermometer measures temperature in both degrees fahrenheit and degrees celsius. The probe is 48 inches long for easy reach. The easy to set display shows the "target" and "actual" temperatures. Their is a timer displaying time elapsed and time remaining. Choose voice alert, beep alert, or no alert at all. There is also a special "Don't forget to baste" alert for poultry. Equipped with doneness presets for beef, pork, veal, and poultry.

I was using an electric roaster oven for my Thanksgiving turkey this year. I had ordered and received this thermometer about 3 days before I needed it. So glad I did! I was following the instructions for the roaster oven and they told me to cook a 13 lb turkey for 3 hours. I decided to use the thermometer for the first time and followed the instructions, placing the probe in the breast about 2 inches & being careful not to get too close to the bone. I covered the roaster and went on with my meal. The thermometer tells you when to baste, but being that you aren't supposed to lift the lid to the roaster due to losing heat, I ignored the timer. But when It told me that my food was done, I was a bit nervous because I still had 45 minutes to go according to the roaster instructions. I decided to trust the thermometer since it was an internal temperature of 180 degrees, and took it out of the roaster and put in on a platter & covered w/foil for 30 minutes while I finished the rest of my meal. I can't tell you how amazing my turkey turned out! The moistest white meat I have ever had and even days after when it usually starts to dry out. Kept beautifully and I credit this Roast Alert Thermometer for its precision and accuracy! I am delighted with the purchase and know that I had made the right choice. I can't wait to use it again on other meats with & without my electric roaster oven. Simple to use and fun because it actually talks during the cooking process. You won't be disappointed if you decide to buy this product!

I read an article in Cooks Illustrated on inncurate tempature readings on these divices. I tested the one I had in boiling water. It did not read 212. This thermometer does. It is easy to program and it is also nice to have a voice give you an a time countdown rather just having a beep at the end.
