Customer Reviews

As good a slicer as one can get for the price

by Anthony, CT
February 4, 2013

Using the v-shaped blade that is the primary slicing tool supplied (I haven't tried the other supplied types), this mandoline made quick work of 2 pounds of potatoes, slicing them quite uniformly to 1/8" thick. The supplied food holder protects the fingers and cleanup by hand (the body of the unit can be placed in the dishwasher, but the blades should be hand washed) is quick and easy. Being of high impact plastic, the body of the unit is perhaps not as heavy as one would like, but it functions well regardless.

Great Product

I bought this for my wife, but was the first to use it. I found it easy to use, easy to change blades and easy to store. I shopped around for a while till I decided on this one. Either the others were really expensive or they were made really cheap. This is made of a quality plastic and metal blades. The blades are sharp. The thickness gauge works well. I would have prefered an all metal mandolin. However this will do till I win the lottery and can afford that. lol

This tool is amazing! I didn't know such paper thin slices were possible. Still learning how to load all of the various blades. (Which store nicely in the base). Keeping the booklet handy.

Easy to use! Clean cut veggies!

by Sammie, TX
November 6, 2012

Once you get the hang of putting the blades back into their storage areas everything else is a piece of cake. It made beautifully cut fries with ease. My cucumbers were perfectly sliced. Haven't yet done tomatoes, but anticipate no problems. So far, I am extremely pleased with this product. I've been pricing mandolins for years and finally found one that was reasonably priced which still does a superior job! Highly recommended!

makes slicing a breeze

by Susan, OH

I always wondered if these things made slicing that much easier. Well, they do. It's kind of amazing the things you can do with this mandolin. Everything is evenly cut, so it cooks evenly, and you can get things much thinner than by hand. I love it.

Works well, but sharp!

by Donald, CA
April 19, 2012

This mandoline was recommended by Cook's Illustrated/America's Test Kitcfhen. It works very well, but, despite the numerous warnings, I nicked a finger when I first opened it - the blades are very sharp, so be careful. I'm now much more careful, with no more nicks so far.

The device is very compact, but you need to read the manual (which is well done) to remind yourself how to switch blades, etc.

Overall a very good product.

Once you learn

by Roberta, SC
March 23, 2012

Once you learn how to put it together and take it down to put it away, it's a snap to use. Be careful though, those blades are EXTREMELY sharp! And that's good, if you're slicing food. It's not good, if you end up slicing a fingertip!

Read the instructions!

A lot of reviews say this mandoline is difficult to use, but if you read the manual you should have no problems. Also, if you use it regularly you'll get the knack of how all the piece click together and apart for easy cleaning. I especially like how it folds up to slide in a drawer for easy access.

Not happy with this Mandoline slicer

by Elizabeth, NY
December 2, 2011

It's too complicated, hard to figure out when switching from one part to another. Just don't like it and will give it to someone who likes to waste their time trying to find out how to slice & chop & solve this mess of a mandoline. I don't have that kind of time when I'm trying to prepare my meals. I want something quick. I could return this item but I wanna give it to someone who likes to solve puzzles. Good Luck. E. Graber

I was so excited to receive this mandoline and have only been able to use it successfuly once. I was only able to cut a cucumber with it. I have tried to cut other things it and have not been sucessful. I am going to try it one more time and, if not successful, I will be returning the item. I have a Master's Degree so am not entire "dumb".

Not bad at all

by Andie, MN
December 30, 2010

Sure it's kind of a pain to clean and the safety food-holder thing is a little too persistent about holding that food, but it makes beautiful, even slices of everything I've put to it. When you're making anything that needs a lot of perfectly even slices (apple pie and scalloped potatoes, in my house) it's totally worth the money.
